Job summary

Hyacinth Foundation under the supervision of the CTR Manager provides counseling to clients regarding HIV infection and testing, and conducts outreach to potential clients.

The role includes pre- and post-test counseling, risk reduction planning, referrals, HIV testing with universal precautions, thorough documentation, and maintaining confidential client records, with evening and weekend flexibility. Strong communication and cultural competence are essential.

Qualifications

  • Completion of Alere and INSTI trainings.
  • Bachelor’s degree plus one year of experience in HIV/AIDS or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of HIV/AIDS prevention in diverse communities.
  • Access to a valid driver’s license.
  • Training as an HIV antibody test counselor or relevant counseling experience.
  • Experience in helping fields and cultural competence.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly reports in accordance with agency policies and procedures.

Under the supervision of the CTR Manager, performs duties relating to the counseling of clients regarding HIV infection and testing and conducting outreach activities to potential clients.

Duties
  • Conduct pre- and post-test counseling sessions with clients pertaining to HIV transmission, risk reduction options, testing options and social service referrals.
  • Develop risk reduction plans for all clients seeking HIV counseling and testing services.

Requirements
  • Successful and demonstrated completion of Alere and INSTI trainings.
  • Bachelor’s degree plus one year of experience in HIV/AIDS, education or related field. A candidate who has no degree but seems exceptionally suitable will be considered if able to demonstrate additional years of relevant experience in exchange for the educational requirement.
  • Must be knowledgeable about HIV/AIDS prevention in diverse communities including among MSM of color, women of color, injection drug users, and persons who exchange sex for resources.
  • Access to a currently registered car and a valid driver’s license in good standing.
  • Training as an HIV antibody test counselor and/or at least one year of experience providing HIV test counseling.
  • Training and experience in a helping field (psychology, social work, counseling).
  • Experience with and dedication to pursuing cultural competence with the populations of clients to be served.
  • Comfort with and knowledgeable with discussing sex frankly using everyday language.
  • Successful completion of NJDHSS-DHAS Counseling & Testing course.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Proficiency in written and verbal communications.
