Job summary

San José Unified is hiring for an Instructional Associate – Transitional Kindergarten to support our youngest learners in a safe, engaging classroom. You will work with teachers to foster foundational skills through play-based and hands-on activities. Starting pay is $24.22 per hour with fully paid employee medical and dental benefits.

Salary is non-negotiable. The role is 0.875 FTE (7 hours/day) for 10 months, with locations including Rachel Carson Elementary, Broadway High School, and Willow

Qualifications

• Passage of SJUSD Instructional Associate Assessment or equivalent.
• Associates Degree or higher or two years of college (48 units).
• Completion of SJUSD Crisis Intervention training within 60 days of start date.

Responsibilities

• Support the teacher in creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for young children
• Assist with activities that promote early literacy, math, language, and social-emotional skills
• Provide individualized and small group support during instructional and play-based learning
• Supervise students in classroom, playground, transitions, and throughout the day
• Support positive behavior, routines, and independence skills for TK students
• Assist students with toileting and other personal care needs
• Maintain a clean, organized, and developmentally appropriate classroom
• Collaborate with teachers, staff, and families to support student growth
• Observe and document student progress or behaviors as directed
• Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and positive relationships
