Purpose of Position

The General Education Paraprofessional assists the classroom teacher and school principal by providing supports to groups of students at a school site in order to increase student achievement.

Essential Job Functions

• Plans and teaches small group instruction in the classroom under the direction of the classroom teacher.
• Collaborates with teacher in weekly lesson planning.
• Assists teacher with differentiating instruction.
• Assists teachers with the management of student behavior.
• Assists students in following classroom routines, working on task, and completing assignments with increasing independence.
• Clarifies, rephrases and repeats instructions for students as needed.
• Collaborates with school staff in behavioral support.
• Assists in the development of individual, classroom‑wide and/or school‑wide positive behavioral supports to students.
• Assists students with conflict resolution.
• Provides structured supervision on the yard during recess, lunch, before school, and after school.

Other Functions

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

• AA Degree or Bachelor’s degree, OR at least 48 successfully earned semester units of college coursework from an accredited college/university (must include 9 hours of coursework in Reading/Writing and 6 in Math).

Certifications

• Must pass criminal background check.
• Must provide proof of negative TB test results.
• Must complete CPR/First Aid certification and Child Abuse training within 30 days of employment.

Pay Range Notice

The posted pay range represents the full range for this classified position. Final placement is contingent upon verification of prior experience through completion of the required Verification of Experience (VOE) form. Credit for prior experience requires having worked at least 85% of the applicable employment period.
