Job summary

The Academy of Alameda is seeking a dedicated TK-8 Special Education Instructional Aide to support students with diverse learning needs, including those with IEPs. This full-time role collaborates with SPED and Gen Ed teachers to provide academic, behavioral, and social-emotional supports.

The position is 8:00-3:45, non-exempt, with up to 35 hours per week during school timing. Experience with children and a high school diploma are required or college degree preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; college degree preferred.
  • Experience with children in education or childcare setting.
  • Ability to support students with diverse learning needs.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with SPED and Gen Ed teachers to provide students with IEPs academic, behavioral and social-emotional supports.
  • Works with a student in a 1:1 capacity or with multiple students when required, providing push in/pull out academic support and other IEP-embedded services.
  • Assess students and monitor student data.
  • Monitors the individual student in the classroom and during breaks to ensure a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Assists in maintaining appropriate student behavior and may assist with diaper changing for TK/K age students.
  • Provide feedback for IEPs and attend IEP meetings as needed.

Position Overview:

The Academy is seeking a qualified Special Education Instructional Aide that will help level instruction and provide a high level of support for students who have diverse learning needs, particularly, those who have Individualized Education Plans (IEP’s). The position is full time for being qualified for benefits and up to 35 hours per week owing to school timing.

Essential Responsibilities:
Student Support:
  • Collaborates closely with special education and Gen Ed teachers to provide students with IEPs academic, behavioral and social-emotional supports
  • Works with a student in a 1:1 capacity or with multiple students if and when required, providing push in/pull out academic support and other academically related services embedded in the IEP.
  • Assess students and monitor student data.
  • Monitors the individual student in the classroom and/or during break and lunch activities to ensure a safe and positive learning environment
  • Assists in maintaining appropriate student behavior and in some cases (typically TK or K age students) might require diaper changing
  • Provide feedback for IEPs.
  • Attend IEP meetings as a participant as needed
  • Establishes and maintains a cooperative working relationship with staff members
Clerical:
  • Assists with clerical duties such as record keeping, filing, correcting papers and data collection
  • Assists special education teachers as required to support meeting student learning needs
  • Performs other related duties as assigned/required by teacher(s), site or district administrator(s)
Training and Experience:

High school graduate or equivalent, college degree preferred; some paid or volunteer experience working with children in any educational or child care setting; or any combination of training and experience that could likely provide the desired knowledge and abilities.
