Job summary

Precision Castparts Corp. in Ogden, Utah, is seeking a full-time on-site grinder who will inspect, grind, and blend defect areas on castings to blueprint tolerances. You will review inspection paperwork, remove defects with rotary tools, and rework areas to meet strict dimensional specs.

The role requires reading blueprints, operating micrometers/calipers, and performing nondestructive tests. You will document logs, mentor other grinders, follow safety rules, and may handle hazardous waste as

Qualifications

• Experience grinding and blending defect areas on castings.
• Ability to read drawings, blueprints, and inspection paperwork.
• Familiarity with dimensional inspection devices (micrometers, calipers, etc.).
• Safety-conscious and able to handle hazardous waste if required.

Responsibilities

• Review x-ray/inspection paperwork, sketches and blueprints to determine grinding requirements.
• Remove surface and blind cavity defects from castings using rotary files, burrs, abrasives or belts to prepare castings for repair.
• Blend and rework repaired areas to specified tolerances; may use hand-held sandblaster.
• Verify dimensional compliance using micrometers, calipers, ultrasonic testing and similar devices.
• Perform fluorescent penetrant inspection tests on parts to verify removal of defects; apply penetrant, let dry, wash and inspect.
• Completes logs and records.
• Provides work direction and training to other grinders as assigned.
• Adheres to plant and department safety rules.
• Safely operates all equipment and tools.
• Identifies and reports safety problems.
• May be required to handle hazardous waste.
• Performs other tasks as directed.
