LiveOnNY seeks a Tissue Recovery Specialist II - Team Lead to join the Tissue Recovery Team at hospital locations within its service area. The role requires strict adherence to FDA regulations, AATB standards, and sterile technique during tissue recovery.

You will lead and train team members, ensure aseptic procedures, and respond to on-call pages within 15 minutes. The per diem position offers a competitive hourly rate and opportunities to influence donor tissue recovery processes.

Qualifications

  • MD, RN, Surgical Technician, EMT or equivalent and two years related experience/training.
  • Knowledge of surgical aseptic technique and ability to work in a sterile operating room setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer services skills.
  • Sensitivity to grieving family members; good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to teach, train and work as a team member.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • CTBScertification (Certified Tissue Bank Specialist) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Follows policies and maintains sterile technique during preparations and recoveries.
  • Responds to pages within 15 minutes when scheduled on-call.

  • Preps and drapes donor for sterile surgical recovery; performs tissue recovery per direction.
  • Packages recovered tissue per protocol and restores donor after procedures.
  • Cleans operating room/recovery facility; trains team members as assigned.
  • Participates in continuous process improvement.

Overview

The TISSUE RECOVERY SPECIALIST II - TEAM LEADparticipates as a member of the Tissue Recovery Team at hospital locations and other recovery facilities within the LiveOnNY service area. Complies with LiveOnNY policies and procedures, FDA regulations, AATB standards, OSHAstandards, and the standards and procedures of affiliated tissue banks when participating in tissue recoveryactivities. Incorporates surgical sterile technique during tissue recovery procedures. Supports and fosters the Mission, Vision and Core Values of LiveOnNY and its commitment to organ, eye and tissue donation.

Responsibilities

Follows LiveOnNY policies and procedures, FDA regulations, AATB standards, OSHA standards, and AORN standards for sterile technique while preparing for and performing recoveries.

Responds to pages within 15 minutes when scheduled on-call.

Arrives at the hospital on time for the scheduled recovery.

Organizes and arranges the back table and supplies to facilitate tissue recovery and prevent cross contamination and mislabeling of tissues.

Opens sterile supplies and maintains aseptic technique throughout the recovery.

Sterilizes instruments for surgical recovery team.

Cultures recovered musculoskeletal tissue according to established protocol.

Labels recovered tissue and culture/blood tubes according to established protocol.

Assists the Team Leader with the completion of the physical assessment of the donor’s body.

Draws blood for serology testing.

Preps and drapes the donor’s body for sterile surgical recovery.

Performs sterile surgical tissue recovery of musculoskeletal and cardiovascular tissue under the direction of the Team Leader.

Packages recovered musculoskeletal and cardiovascular tissue according to established protocol.

Restores the donor’s body after tissue recovery in accordance with the Funeral Director’s requests, when known, to facilitate embalming procedures.This includes the positioning of prosthetic devices and the suturing of all incisions.

Together with other team members, cleans the operating room/recovery facility after tissue recovery.

Coaches and trains other team members on surgical tissue recovery procedures, as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

MD, RN, Surgical Technician, EMT or equivalent and two years related experience and/or training preferred.Good knowledge of human anatomy/function and basic medical terminology is necessary.

Knowledge of surgical aseptic technique and demonstrated ability to work in a sterile operating room setting required.

Excellent interpersonal and customer services skills essential.

Sensitivity to grieving family members; good interpersonal skills.

Ability to teach, train and work as a team member.

Must possess a valid driver’s license.

CTBScertification (Certified Tissue Bank Specialist) preferred.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common journals and documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write simple communications and documents. Ability to effectively present information to co-workers, the general public and management.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: A commitment to working in a culturally diverse organization and community, to quality, excellence and a strong performance improvement program and to both clinical and administrative goals is required. Requires an energetic and wholehearted approach toward relationship-building.

Pay rate of $35.00/hour until completion of training or based on previous experience; rate upto$65.00/hour
