Responsibilities

The Department of Psychiatry and Psychology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, is seeking an in-person, full-time (0.80-1.0 FTE) doctoral-level clinical psychologist to join two distinct multidisciplinary clinical services. The position requires experience in two separate areas: 1) gender-affirming behavioral health care, including presurgical biopsychosocial assessments for transgender, gender diverse, and intersex individuals; and 2) the assessment and treatment of severe mood disorders, psychotic disorders, and personality disorders. Approximately 60% of the time will be devoted to providing behavioral health evaluations, presurgical biopsychosocial assessments, and psychotherapy to patients served within the Transgender and Intersex Specialty Care Clinic (TISCC). This position prioritizes the delivery of specialized, team-based, gender-affirming care for transgender, gender diverse, and intersex individuals in a safe and respectful environment. The clinic follows the Standards of Care (SOC) of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH).

Approximately 40% of the time will be dedicated to joining our multidisciplinary, recovery-focused team in our residential treatment program, the John E. Herman Home and Treatment Facility. Core responsibilities include providing psychological assessment, evidence-based individual, group and family psychosocial interventions and milieu treatment alongside psychiatric clinicians, master’s level therapists, nursing personnel, 24/7 psychiatric technicians/recovery coaches, and an integrated employment specialist. The successful applicant will collaborate with the clinical and medical directors in program evaluation and quality improvement efforts and assist in the education and training of the multidisciplinary staff.

In addition to clinical service provision, the successful candidate is also expected to participate in advancing the educational mission of Mayo Clinic, including active participation in the residency and fellowship training programs, and engage in collaborative research efforts across the department. The psychologist may also apply for departmental-sponsored research time (up to 20%) within the first 3 years of their appointment in accordance with established research program guidelines.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a doctoral degree from an American Psychological Association (APA) or Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) accredited graduate program, will have completed an APA-or CPA-accredited internship, will be eligible for licensure in Minnesota, and will either have or obtain specialty board certification from the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP) within 3 years of starting this position. Additionally, applicants should have at least 1 year of postdoctoral clinical experience that includes completing assessments and writing letters of support for medical and surgical interventions that follow the Standards of Care published by WPATH. Experience working in residential treatment settings is also preferred. Furthermore, pursuing PSYPACT credentials and WPATH’s Global Education Initiative SOC Certification within the first few years of starting this position would be desirable.
