Job summary

McGriff Tire & Service in Mobile, AL seeks a mechanically inclined Tire Repair Installation/Road Service Tech with experience in semi-trailer repairs, including brakes, electrical, tires, and welding. You will perform routine maintenance, inspect equipment, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance.

The role requires lifting heavy objects, outdoor work, and adherence to safety standards. ASE certs are desired but not required; valid DOT physical and MVR are essential.

Qualifications

• Must be mechanically inclined with experience in semi-trailer repairs (brakes, electrical, tires, welding, hydraulics).
• DOT inspections experience preferred; clean MVR and ability to pass DOT physical.
• Basic welding skills: oxy/acetylene, ARC, MIG; ASE certifications desired but not required.
• Able to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs frequently, >75 lbs occasionally) and work outdoors.
• Commitment to safety, compliance, and continuing training.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance and adjustments on trailing equipment per manufacturer and company schedules.
• Access all areas of equipment to inspect and perform necessary repairs on trailers.
• Maintain safety and cleanliness; follow DOT, EPA, OSHA rules; document inspections.
• Carry out general trailer repairs and troubleshoot issues with brakes, tires, hydraulics.
• Observe daily attendance; participate in training; perform other duties as assigned.
• Work on-site with ability to walk on uneven surfaces and in outdoor conditions.
• Complete DOT-related inspections and safety documentation; ensure compliance.
• Operate within policies and maintain MVR, drug test, and DOT physical requirements.

Prefer experience in all phases of semi-trailer repairs such as brakes, electrical, floor repair, tires, welding, hydraulics, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, modifications work, etc. Also, experience in DOT inspections, welding, tires new and repairing, change (mount & dismount).
• Perform routine maintenance functions and adjustments on trailing equipment in compliance with manufacturers and company schedules.
• Access any area of the equipment to perform necessary maintenance (including: inspect and perform work in, on or under parts of trailers).
• Safely walk & stand for extended periods of time on various surfaces that may be uneven or slippery (including working outdoors in inclement weather).
• Lift objects of various shapes, sizes and weights (up to 50 lbs. frequently and greater than 75 lbs. occasionally).
• Safely walk, reach (including above your head), bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat & kneel as necessary to perform the job duties.
• Responsible for shop cleanliness, safety and compliance.
• Apply knowledge and work in accordance with DOT, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), interstate Authority, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and other rules and regulations as required.
• Perform safety inspections of equipment and prepare safety documentation.
• Follow McGriff policy and procedures in making all repairs.
• Participate in company training programs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Prompt, daily attendance at assigned work location.
