Job summary

Rumpke Waste & Recycling is seeking a Vehicle Tire Technician to maintain fleet tires, inspect wheels, and perform tire replacements. The role supports spill response duties and requires ability to work with hand tools, use torque wrenches, and keep accurate records in the shop system.

The position shifts 3pm-5am, Monday through Friday, with overtime and night/weekend work as needed. Prior tire service experience is preferred, and a valid DOT medical card or ability to obtain one is required.

Qualifications

• 1 year of tire service experience preferred.
• Must be able to obtain Tire Industry Association (TIA) Certification if needed.
• Must have a valid DOT Medical Card or able to obtain prior to hire.

Responsibilities

• Maintain tires of fleet vehicles in a safe manner in compliance with regulations and policies.
• Inspect fleet tires, wheels, and components per maintenance schedules.
• Identify and replace worn tires, wheels, and components; mount and dismount tires.
• Perform tire-related roadside replacements; maintain tire inventory and shop areas.
• Record time, repairs, and parts usage in computer systems.

Vehicle Tire Technicians are responsible for maintaining the tires of the vehicle fleet as well as handling spill response duties.

Shift: 3pm-5am Monday-Friday

Responsibilities of Position:

• Maintain tires of fleet vehicles in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies
• Inspect fleet vehicle tires, wheels, and related components per company maintenance schedules
• Identify and replace worn/damaged tires, wheels, and related components
• Mount and dismount tires
• Perform tire-related roadside replacement
• Maintain and secure tire inventory and tire equipment to ensure safe working order
• Perform routine housekeeping duties related to tire inventory, tools, shop, and work areas
• Respond to oil spills, anti-freeze spills, miscellaneous garbage / debris spills and clean using brooms, shovels, floor dry, pressure washer / vac truck, skid steer etc.
• Assist in other areas of the vehicle maintenance shop as needed
• Maintain accurate records (time, repair orders and parts usage) on computer
• Perform other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility:

• This position will not manage employees

Skills & Abilities Needed for Position:

• Ability to move, stack, and store wheels, tires, and other heavy components alone or with the aid of equipment
• Must be able to use torque and impact wrenches
• Attention to detail and ability to stay organized
• Familiarity with using a computer
• Ability to professionally interact with internal and external customers

Experience & Knowledge Needed for Position:

• One year of tire service experience, specifically in heavy tandem-axle vehicle wheels and tires, preferred
• General knowledge of components of truck wheels and tires
• Good mechanical aptitude with basic knowledge of tire repair and replacement
• Must be able to obtain the Tire Industry Association (TIA) Certification if needed

Physical Requirements in a Regular Workday:

• Frequently lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 100 lbs
• Frequently working outside in changing temperatures, wet/humid conditions
• Continuously working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter
• Frequently stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling
• Frequently climbing and/or balancing
• Occasionallysiting
• Frequently standing/walking

Additional Working Conditions/Aspects:

• Must have a valid DOT Medical Card or able to obtain prior to hire
• Must be at least 19 years of age
• No more than 3 moving violations within the last 2 years
• Must not have any DUI's or OVI's within the last 5 years or 2 in the last 10 years
• Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas
• Exposure to residential and commercial waste
• Ability to travel between offices, as required
• Ability to work flexible hours; expected to work nights and weekends as needed
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays
• Legally eligible to work in the United States
• Valid driver’s license (if applicable)
• Must successfully complete pre-employment testing
• Must be able to read and speak the English language
