Job summary

Opti Staffing Group is hiring a TIG Welder / Fabricator to join a marine-exhaust hood and control panel fabrication team. You will read drawings, prepare materials, and weld/finish stainless steel components with precision.

You’ll also perform quality-control checks, operate shop tools, and assist with shipping. Occasional international dry-dock work is available with a passport and flexibility to travel.

Qualifications

• Requires TIG welding experience, preferably with stainless steel
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings/blueprints
• Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship
• Comfortable reading specs and working with 16-gauge stainless steel

Responsibilities

• Read and verify construction drawings/blueprints
• Fabricate small parts and components; prepare materials for fabrication
• Perform TIG welding and tacking on 16-gauge stainless steel
• Grind, cut, and strip stainless steel; operate shop tools (cold saw, press brake, notcher, belt sander)
• Conduct quality-control checks and document results
• Crate finished products and assist with loading trucks using a forklift
• May travel internationally for dry-dock projects with passport ready

OPTI STAFFING IS HIRING! TIG Welder / Fabricator

Who We Are

Our client is a specialized manufacturer of high-quality stainless‑steel water‑wash galley exhaust hoods and control panels for the marine industry. Their products are used aboard U.S. Navy ships and cruise ships around the world.

We are looking for a skilled TIG Welder / Fabricator to work alongside the Lead Welder, building exhaust hoods from start to finish. This is not assembly‑line work. The ideal candidate takes pride in their workmanship, pays close attention to detail, and works well as part of a team.

What You’ll Do

A typical workday may include:

• Reading and verifying construction drawings/blueprints
• Pulling parts and preparing materials for fabrication
• Fabricating small parts and components
• Performing quality‑control checks throughout the fabrication process
• Lifting and handling stainless‑steel parts
• TIG welding and tacking 16-gauge stainless steel using thumb controls
• Grinding, cutting, and stripping stainless steel
• Operating shop tools and equipment, including:
• Cold saw
• Press brake
• Notcher
• Belt sander for re‑graining stainless steel
• Water‑testing finished products for leaks
• Completing quality‑control documentation and forms
• Crating finished products and assisting with loading trucks using a forklift

Occasional Responsibilities

From time to time, you may also assist with:

• Assembling float switches
• Changing detergent cams in detergent pumps
• Preparing thermostats by filling them with silicone and color‑coding them according to temperature
• Assembling Navy fire switches, damper controls, and diverting dampers

International Cruise Ship Dry‑Dock Opportunities

Very occasionally—typically 1‑2 times per year—employees may have the opportunity to travel internationally to assist with cruise‑ship dry‑dock projects.

A team of 3‑4 employees travels to the shipyard to assist with system upgrades and other necessary maintenance. These assignments typically last approximately two weeks, depending on the size of the project.

Recent dry‑dock work has frequently taken place in Marseille, France.

During these assignments:

• You must have a valid passport
• You will typically work approximately 8 hours per day, with potential overtime
• Regular 8‑hour days are paid for travel days to and from the dry‑dock location
• Employees receive an additional $100/day for dry‑dock assignments
• Employees work, eat, and sleep aboard the ship
• Welding is generally not part of the dry‑dock work
• Responsibilities may include changing thermostats, wash nozzles, door handles, and other components needed to update systems and ensure they are functioning properly
• Employees work alongside contractors from around the world to complete projects within a short, approximately two‑week timeframe

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who:

• Has TIG welding experience, preferably with stainless steel
• Is comfortable working with 16‑gauge stainless steel
• Can read and interpret construction drawings
• Has strong attention to detail and takes pride in their workmanship
• Is comfortable working with hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment
• Works well independently and as part of a team
• Is comfortable lifting and handling materials throughout the workday
• Understands the importance of quality control and accurate documentation
• Is willing to learn and assist with a variety of tasks beyond welding
• Is interested in occasional international travel and dry‑dock assignments
