Job summary

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; welding vocational training preferred.
  • 3–5 years TIG welding experience or a formal certificate.
  • Ability to work days, nights, weekends, holidays and overtime as required.
  • Knowledge of TIG welding procedures and techniques to weld metals.
  • Familiar with power generation equipment (turbines).
  • Familiar with NDE techniques such as dye penetrants.
  • Ability to read blueprints and follow repair procedures.
  • Ability to weld in multiple positions (horizontal/vertical/overhead).
  • Strong customer service skills to explain repairs and timelines.
  • Ability to supervise other welders at customer sites.

Responsibilities

  • Weld/repair GE-type buckets/nozzles/shrouds and combustion.
  • Set up jobs using blueprints, diagrams, routers, and fixtures; TIG weld per procedures.
  • Inspect and log maintenance on welding equipment; calibrate tools.
  • Set up machines per work instructions; adjust trim, size, and form.
  • Visually inspect welds with gauges and fixtures; document results.
  • Perform weld inspections for size, face, root, cracks, inclusions, and porosity.
  • Adhere to customer drawings, quality standards, and safety rules.
  • Follow internal quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Push/pull/lift up to 25 lbs; stand for extended periods.
  • Lead diaphragm welders and supervise work at customer sites.

Description

Mechanical Dynamics and Analysis LLC, a world-class supplier of power generation services, parts, and repairs, has an immediate opening for a qualified individual who desires to join a growing organization and has an appetite for diverse and technically challenging work.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Weld/Repair GE-type Buckets/Nozzles/shrouds and combustion.
  • Set up and layout jobs using blueprints, diagrams, routers, and fixtures, and follow proper TIG welding procedures.
  • Inspect, maintain, and log preventative maintenance on welding equipment.
  • Set up all associated machines and equipment according to work instructions, including but not limited to trim, size, and form.
  • Visual inspect welds using fillet weld gauges, calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and final weld fixtures.
  • Perform weld inspections for size, face, and root reinforcement, cracks, inclusions, and porosity.
  • Daily compliance with all customer drawings and specifications to maintain high-quality standards.
  • Comply with all internal manufacturing safety standards, general shop housekeeping, and the company teaming environment.
  • Comply with internal quality system, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Must be able to push, pull, and lift 25 lbs., and stand for extended periods.
  • Performs other related duties assigned by management.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED/Apprenticeship classes or trade school.
  • Welding vocational school training or 3-5 years of experience with TIG welding in lieu of a certificate.
  • Must be available to work days, nights, weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime as required.
  • Basic knowledge of TIG Welding procedures, practices, and techniques is required to weld and/or fuse metals together.
  • Familiar with Power Generation (Turbine) equipment.
  • Familiar with NDE techniques such as dye penetrants.
  • Knowledge and ability to use hand and power tools associated with TIG welding, such as chipping hammer, grinder, sander, etc.
  • Knowledge and ability to use standard precision measuring instruments and hand tools such as tape measure, level, square, file or rasp, etc.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow company repair procedures and directions.
  • Ability to work from blueprints, sketches, procedures, and other specifications.
  • Familiar with power generation equipment (Gas Turbines).
  • Ability to weld in horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.
  • Strong customer service experience in explaining and discussing needed repairs and being able to determine the scheduling time frame.
  • Ability to lead other diaphragm welders and supervise work being performed at the customer site.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic.
  • Good visual and auditory acuity.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
