Job description

What You Will Do

We invite you to join our mission-focused team in the International Threat Reduction Group (NEN-3) that applies expertise in nuclear and radiological material and commodities detection, packaging, international training and consultation, modeling, and simulation to reduce nuclear proliferation and enhance global security in a changing threat environment. Our diverse workforce enjoys a shared work environment focused on creative problem solving, where everyone's opinions and ideas are considered.

As a Threat Reduction Engagements Post-Masters Student, you will support a wide range of programs including:

  1. The International Nonproliferation and Export Control Program (INECP) which works to strengthen global efforts to prevent the proliferation of WMD-related materials, equipment, and technology. INECP accomplishes this through long-term partnerships with frontline enforcement and regulatory officials who support national export control licensing, industry compliance, and inspections-based enforcement practices designed to prevent sensitive items from being used to build Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMDs).
  2. The U.S. Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration's International Nuclear Security Program (INS) which works globally to prevent nuclear and radiological terrorism by securing vulnerable materials, facilities, and transport systems, and
  3. The Off-Site Source Recovery Program which recovers unwanted radioactive sealed sources both domestically and internationally that pose risk to national security, public health, and safety.

Duties will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Define and analyze data to create metrics for engagements with international partners
  • Develop training and workshop materials supporting engagement activities with partner countries in the areas of export control, nuclear security, and nuclear/radiological material management
  • Provide programmatic and logistics support for international engagements and activities
  • Develop skills in international engagements related to strategic trade, export controls, and nuclear security.
