Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a Security Engineer on Detection & Response to protect our assets, data, and infrastructure by building and operating detection systems across endpoints, identity, cloud, and compute layers.

You will collaborate with security and infrastructure teams to define telemetry, threat models, and response playbooks from day one, and to automate investigations where it reduces toil and speeds containment.

Qualifications

• Hands-on threat detection and incident response experience.
• Understand modern adversary tradecraft and translate it into detection.
• Threat modeling mindset for new infrastructure/features.
• Experience with Kubernetes/containerized environments and telemetry.

Responsibilities

• Build and evolve Detection & Response capabilities with high-signal detection and reliable operational response.
• Engineer detection pipelines, rule lifecycle, measurement loops, tuning, and safe rollouts.
• Automate responses and investigations to reduce toil and improve containment.
• Collaborate with security and infra teams to ensure telemetry and threat models are built in from day one.
• Define telemetry gaps and prioritize fixes across endpoints, identity, cloud, and Kubernetes.
• Address emergent security concerns in frontier AI lab environments and translate ideas into concrete telemetry.
