Job summary

Albany Medical Center seeks a skilled Physician Assistant to join our Thoracic Surgery team, with inpatient care and MDT involvement. This full-time role covers ICU and general medicine in a high-acuity surgical setting.

You will assist in thoracic operations (including VATS and thoracotomy), manage ICU patients, perform bedside procedures, and contribute to perioperative planning with a focus on patient safety and outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited PA program with NCCPA certification and active licensure.
  • Prescriptive authority required as applicable to PA practice.
  • 2+ years surgical or acute care experience preferred, CT surgery context advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive care for thoracic patients from assessment through postoperative ICU care.
  • Assist in diagnosis and surgical management of thoracic diseases including lung cancer and mediastinal masses.
  • Perform or assist in thoracic procedures such as thoracotomy and VATS.
  • Manage ICU patients including ventilated and unstable cases.
  • Conduct preoperative evaluations and informed consent; participate in MDT planning.
  • Lead ICU rounds and coordinate postoperative care; monitor for complications.
