Job summary

The Thoracic Surgery team at UT Southwestern Medical Center seeks an experienced Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner to join a growing program providing inpatient and outpatient care for thoracic surgical conditions. The APP will split time between Frisco and the main Dallas campus, with travel supported during the start of the Frisco program.

Ideal candidates have a master’s degree (PA or APRN), NCCPA certification or prescriptive authority, ACLS, and a commitment to teamwork

Qualifications

• Master's degree in PA program (ARC-PA accredited).
• Master's degree or higher in nursing with AP Education Program.
• NCCPA certification and Texas PA licensure.
• APRN licensure with prescriptive authority (Texas).
• ACLS certification per UT Southwestern policy.

Responsibilities

• conducts and documents comprehensive initial and ongoing physical examinations based on age and diagnosis.
• synthesizes data to develop and evaluate the patient plan of care and orders/interprets labs and imaging.
• demonstrates proficiency in technical/procedural skills.
• provides management, referrals, counseling, and education to patients and families.
• facilitates quality initiatives and clinical research to improve practice.
• collaborates on research and applies evidence-based practice.
• performs other duties as assigned.

Education

Master's degree in Physician Assistant program (ARC-PA accredited)

Master's degree or higher in nursing with AP Education Program

NCCPA certification and Texas PA licensure

Texas APRN licensure with prescriptive authority

ACLS certification (American Heart Association or Red Cross)
