The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston invites a board-certified Thoracic Surgeon to join the Division of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery in an academic faculty role.

You will provide comprehensive thoracic surgical care, collaborate across specialties, teach residents and thoracic fellows in the operating room and clinic, and participate in scholarly activities and research using advanced robotic platforms, including single-port technology.

Qualifications

  • Board-certified thoracic surgeon with academic clinical experience.

Thoracic Surgery
StartDate: ASAP Available Shifts: Two “operating room” days, two clinic days, and one academic/adm Pay Rate: $450000.00 - $500000.00

The University of Texas Medical Branch seeks a board-certified Thoracic Surgeon to join the Division of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery. This academic faculty opportunity offers the autonomy to build a broad clinical practice while helping shape the division’s next phase of growth. You will provide comprehensive thoracic surgical care, collaborate across specialties, and work with advanced robotic platforms, including single-port technology.

The position also provides meaningful opportunities to teach residents and thoracic fellows, participate in scholarly activities, pursue research interests, and develop a distinct clinical or academic niche. The incoming surgeon will join an established service with the support and institutional resources to expand referrals, strengthen programs, and advance multidisciplinary care.

Opportunity Highlights
  • Help grow an academic thoracic surgery division with the potential to expand to a three-surgeon practice
  • Maintain a broad practice encompassing thoracic oncology, benign thoracic disease, lung resections, esophageal surgery, complex procedures, and chest wall reconstruction
  • Work with a robust robotic surgery program featuring multiple platforms and single-port technology
  • Receive support from a dedicated Thoracic Surgery Nurse Practitioner, shared advanced practice providers, residents, fellows, administrative staff, and cancer center nurse navigators
  • Collaborating with Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Gastroenterology, Trauma, Cardiac Surgery, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Teach residents and thoracic surgery fellows in the operating room and clinical environment
  • Participate in scholarly activity, publications, and grant-funded research opportunities
  • Develop referral relationships, expand physician outreach, and grow market share across a regional clinical platform
  • Pursue potential leadership opportunities as the division expands
