Job summary

Exponent is seeking a Thermal Sciences Associate in Phoenix, AZ, to join our Thermal Sciences Practice on-site. You will research literature, perform experiments, and distill complex data for client projects.

You will review client experiments, conduct risk assessments, and prepare reports and presentations. A Ph.D. in a relevant field and strong communication skills are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. required or equivalent in a relevant engineering field.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Solid understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and combustion.
  • Hands-on experience with lab or field experiments in fluids, thermodynamics, heat transfer or combustion.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Our Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Thermal Sciences Associate for our Thermal Sciences Practice in Phoenix, AZ.

You will be responsible for
  • Researching and parsing data from published literature
  • Performing experiments
  • Analyzing and distilling complex data
  • Reviewing and understanding experiments and simulations performed by clients
  • Conducting risk assessments
  • Preparing written reports, proposals, and presentations
  • Managing projects
  • Most assignments will require the ability to gather information from and convey technical conclusions to individuals in engineering, the legal profession, business and industry
You will have the following skills and qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or a related field
  • Presently legally authorized to work in the United States. No immigration sponsorship or processing required.
  • A practical and theoretical understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and combustion
  • Outstanding ability to apply fundamental engineering concepts to new problems
  • Hands-on experience developing and performing laboratory or field experiments in the areas of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, heat transfer or combustion
  • Familiarity with technical documents and equipment
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills

Compensation

Our consultants are rewarded for their technical and business contributions and have an opportunity to plan for future success and career growth. Exponent's total compensation plan is consistent with its expectations of the quality and quantity of work performed and with the professional standards set by Exponent. At the Associate and Senior Associate level, total compensation includes base salary, bi-weekly bonuses for high-intensity efforts, annual bonus and 401(k) employer contribution of 7% of base salary.

The base salary range for this position is dependent on experience and capabilities which will be assessed during the interview process.
