Job summary

Solar Atmospheres in Chesterfield, MI is seeking a Furnace Operator for 2nd Shift (Tue-Fri, 2:00pm–12:30am). You will own vacuum heat treating and brazing projects from start to finish, juggling multiple orders while maintaining safety and quality.

With 6+ months of training, you’ll learn furnace operation, labeling, and packing requirements, along with monitoring programs, recorders, and gauges. Forklift/overhead crane may be required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Basic math skills are essential for measurements and tolerances.
• Willingness to learn and be trained in vacuum heat treating and brazing.
• Ability to operate safely in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Plan and change out furnace loads and pack orders.
• Operate furnaces and other shop equipment.
• Maintain clean, safe work areas and follow safety standards.
• Label, package, and document inspected parts per customer specs.
• Configure settings on programs, recorders, and gauges.
• Monitor furnace performance and ensure quality standards.
• Utilize forklift and overhead crane as needed.

Our Furnace Operatorscarry out vacuum heat treating and brazing services to some of the most notable companies out there. With extensive training (typically 6+ months), you’ll learn the ropes from our tenured co-workers to provide services of the highest possible quality. Whether you have experience or not, with the right attitude, attention to detail, and some basic math skills, all duties can be trained with room for growth.

We are looking to add team members to our 2nd Shift

2nd Shift - Tuesday - Friday 2:00pm to 12:30am

What you’ll do

You probably don’t like being micromanaged which is good because we don’t like to micromanage. As a Furnace Operator, you’ll work independently, owning your projects from start to finish. Projects vary in length so you’ll juggle a few projects at once, switching between tasks throughout the day. It’s never a dull moment- from tracking the furnace’s performance one moment to packing in or out a project the next. While every day might be a little different, you can expect to do the following:

• Planning and changing out furnace loads and packing all orders
• Operating furnaces and other shop equipment
• Maintaining clean and orderly work areas (we pride ourselves on safety and cleanliness)
• Follow project instructions and complete all customer labeling and packaging requirements
• Configure and monitor settings on programs, recorders, and vacuum gauges
• Work efficiently while ensuring company quality standards are maintained
• Utilize a forklift and overhead crane as needed

What you need to thrive in this role

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Basic math skills will serve you very well
• Reliable and organized with the ability to multitask and prioritize
• Comfortability working in a fast-paced environment moving around consistently throughout the day
• Ability to lift, bend, reach, and stand for extended periods of time
• Experience in manufacturing, warehouse, or heat treatment is a plus but willing to train!
• Forklift and Overhead Crane experience/licensure a plus
