Job summary

Amazon Leo is seeking a Thermal Liaison Engineer to join the Thermal Engineering team and drive engineering dispositions for non-conformances across production operations in support of the Amazon Leo constellation. You will work on the shop floor with Manufacturing and Quality to resolve issues and develop dispositions for non-conforming hardware.

The role requires MRB experience in aerospace programs, strong engineering judgment, and the ability to balance analysis with engineering decisions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of Power Systems, Fluid Dynamics, or Thermodynamics.
  • 3+ years of demonstrated experience in a Liaison Engineer / MRB role with aircraft, spacecraft, or launch vehicle structures.
  • Integration and Testing experience.
  • Familiarity with Manufacturing Execution System (MES)

Responsibilities

  • Review and disposition non-conformance events of the spacecraft and its ground support equipment that may occur in all phases of the Amazon Leo operations: procurement, storage, handling, manufacturing, assembly, and testing
  • Develop standard repairs, rework procedures, propose design for manufactur­ing (DFM) improvements, improved processes and work instructions
  • Conduct root cause investigations and develop corrective actions
  • Document thermal telemetries, and thermal analyses when needed to support dispositions, interpreting established report.
  • Develop analysis methods to address common non-conformances
  • Work with Quality, Manufacturing, and Engineering experts to provide root cause failure analyses
  • Interact with internal customers, external customers, and suppliers
  • Interpret test plans and create Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for test operators
  • A day in the life: This Thermal Liaison Engineer will be providing engineering support to resolve engineering issues that arise during manufacturing and assembly processes, quality inspection and acceptance tests, through the application of engineering and design principles, consulting the engineering development teams as needed
  • About The Team: The Thermal Engineering is part of the Amazon Leo Vehicle Engineering (Structural Analysis, Loads and Dynamics, Materials and Processes, Thermal and Reliability) that is ultimately responsible for Integrity of not only the spacecraft but all other commodities supporting the program, inside and outside of the Vehicle Engineering group.

In this role, you’ll join Amazon Leo's Thermal Engineering as a Thermal Liaison Engineer to innovate and solve engineering issues that arise during Amazon Leo production operations leading to every flight of our constellation of satellites. You will be working on the shop floor along side Manufacturing and Quality teams to develop engineering dispositions related to non-conformances. You will work hard, have fun, and make history!

This Thermal Liaison Engineer must have Material Review Board (MRB) experience in aerospace programs, and must be able to understand the balance between engineering judgment versus analysis rigor and when each is appropriate.

Key job responsibilities

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
  • Knowledge of Power Systems, Fluid Dynamics, or Thermodynamics
  • 3+ years of demonstrated experience in a Liaison Engineer / Material Review Board (MRB) role with aircraft, spacecraft, or
  • launch vehicle structures
  • Integration and Testing experience
  • Familiarity with Manufacturing Execution System (MES)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or an equivalent field
  • Knowledge of Siemens NX, or SolidWorks
  • Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume
  • Experience with the project management of technical projects
  • Experience with formal root cause and correct action investigations
  • Experience with Six Sigma’s DMAIC process for Statistical Analysis
  • Strong understanding or Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing
  • Strong understanding of ANSI Y14.5M-1994 (drawing interpretation)

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
