Blue Origin is seeking an engineer to deliver and integrate thermal components for the Blue Moon Crew Lander as part of the HLS Thermal Systems team. You will lead Active Thermal Control System delivery, integration, and verification efforts while collaborating with NASA and partners.

The role requires a B.S. in mechanical or aerospace engineering, hands-on hardware experience, and CAD proficiency (Creo). Some positions involve working in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
  • 3 years of relevant Thermal Engineering or Mechanical Engineering experience.
  • Ability to perform basic thermal analysis using hand calcs.
  • Familiarity with common spacecraft Active Thermal Control hardware such as cold plates, heat exchangers, valves, radiators, tubing, and fittings, and working fluids.
  • Experience with CAD software; preferably Creo.

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit. To further Blue Origin’s mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building the sustainable infrastructure for transporting crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.
As part of a diverse and hardworking team of engineers, you will contribute to the definition and development of spacecraft thermal control systems. You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced and often uncertain environment, contributing to innovative solutions, while demonstrating personal leadership, technical competence, and attention to detail. You will work directly with NASA and our National Team Partners as part of the Human Landing System (HLS).
We are looking for an engineer to be responsible for the delivery and integration of thermal components across the Blue Moon Crew Lander as a part of the HLS Crew Lander Thermal Systems Engineering Vehicle Team. In this role, you will be responsible for Active Thermal Control System component delivery, integration, and verification efforts as well as supporting Active Thermal Control System design efforts.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
  • 3 years of relevant Thermal Engineering or Mechanical Engineering experience
  • Ability to perform basic thermal analysis using hand calcs
  • Demonstrated experience assembling and testing hardware
  • Understanding of aerospace hardware verification and validation process
  • Familiarity with common spacecraft Active Thermal Control hardware such as cold plates, heat exchangers, valves, radiators, tubing, and fittings, and working fluids
  • Experience with CAD software; preferably Creo
Preferred Qualifications
  • M.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
  • 5 years of relevant aerospace experience
  • Experience in designing, building, and testing fluid routing systems and associated components
  • Solid understanding of pumped fluid loop hardware such as tubing, cold plates, radiators, valves, heat exchangers, etc and semi-passive devices like sensors and heaters
  • Experience with Thermal Desktop and Sinda/Fluint
  • Able to work well in an integrated collaborative team environment, including frequent interactions with other engineers, managers, and program leadership
  • Highly self-motivated with strong organizational and written/oral communication skills – able to prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced environment
Base Pay Range for:

CO applicants is $98,208.00 - $137,491.20WA applicants is $107,136.00 - $149,990.40

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
