Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking an expert drafter for the MK1 Lunar Lander team in Seattle. You will create detail and assembly drawings, release data sets, and support cross-functional engineering with precise drafting standards.

The role emphasizes Creo Parametric, Windchill, GD&T, and a strong eye for detail in a high-stakes aerospace environment. A US work authorization is required and collaboration with multiple teams is essential.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Computer Aided Drafting & Design or equivalent.
  • 5+ years in aerospace development or similar.
  • Proficiency with Creo Parametric and Windchill for drawing release.
  • Knowledge of ASME Y14.5 GD&T.
  • Experience managing large CAD assemblies and BOMs.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare design layouts and release data sets using CAD/PLM tools.
  • Review drawings to ensure compliance with specs and standards.
  • Support mechanical layout and detail design for parts and assemblies.
  • Apply company drafting techniques to maintain engineering data.
  • Use standard methodologies to balance cost, schedule, and performance.

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

To this end, our first MK1 Lunar Lander christened "Endurance" will be the largest and most complex vehicle ever to land on the moon. Our second MK1 will continue humanity's exploration of the Lunar south pole by delivering NASA's VIPER rover. NASA recently selected Blue Origin to fly 2 more MK1 landers to deliver Lunar Terrain Vehicles.

We are looking for an expert drafter to use their technical expertise, leadership skills, and dedication to quality to join the MK1Lunar Lander team and positively impact safe spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Preparing design layouts, creating detail part and assembly drawings/MBDs, and releasing data sets using CAD and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools.
  • Reviewing engineering drawing and designs to ensure alignment to established specifications and standards.
  • Supporting engineering teams in the development with mechanical layout and detail design and drawing for structural detail parts and assemblies.
  • Applying relevant company (design, drafting, parts) techniques to plan, layout, and maintain data depicting engineering designs (detail, assembly and installation drawings or datasets).
  • Implementing engineering and manufacturing standard methodologies to achieve a balanced approach to cost, schedule and performance requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Computer Aided Drafting & Design.
  • 5+ years of experience in aerospace development or similar industry.
  • Proficiency in drawing generation and release processes using Creo Parametric and Windchill.
  • Proficiency in standard fits, tolerance stacks, and GD&T analysis (ASME Y14.5).
  • Experience managing large CAD assemblies, BOMs, ICMs, and skeletons.
  • Experience in designing active thermal hardware (tubing, radiators, coldplates, pump assemblies, etc.) and/or passive thermal hardware (multi-layer insulation (MLI) blankets, Thermal Protection Systems (TPS), etc.)
  • Experience working in a cross-functional team responsible for selecting materials, manufacturing processes, and developing the design to produce world-class engineered products.
  • Excellent attention to detail and task ownership, someone who demonstrates pride in all work and willingness to perform low-level tasks when needed.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or equivalent.
  • 8 years or greater proven experience.
  • Experience releasing engineering data sets using Model Based Definition.
  • Experience with material selection, compatibility, and metallic manufacturing techniques & product forms (composites, sheet metal, machining, etc.)
  • Experience designing for manufacturability.

Base Pay Range for:

CA applicants is $39.34 - $55.07

CO applicants is $36.06 - $50.48

WA applicants is $39.34 - $55.07
