Job description

Description

Do you enjoy developing, analyzing and prototyping novel engineered materials and structures for innovative high temperature applications?

Do you have experience in thermal and structural modeling, and analyzing thermal response of materials to characterize structures in extreme environments?

If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL.

We are seeking an engineer to apply thermal analysis skills to subsonic, supersonic, and hypersonic flight vehicle applications. You will work together with a hardworking team of engineers to empower U.S. warfighters!

Responsibilities
  • Engage in studies and research to advance the state of the art in thermal modeling and analysis, thermal protection materials and thermal/structural survivability analysis to achieve program requirements
  • Interact with experts across multiple domains to develop and analyze advanced weapon systems
  • Document and present findings to government agencies and sponsors
Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Possess a BS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or other relevant technical discipline
  • Have 5+ years of relevant experience in thermal science, thermal modeling and analysis for aerospace applications
  • Have strong technical knowledge in the integration of aerothermal solutions with thermal and structural modeling frameworks
  • Possess practical experience in thermal modeling using finite element analysis (FEA) software, e.g., ABAQUS
  • Demonstrate the ability and willingness to learn, develop proficiency in, and ultimately master in-house thermal modeling tools and methodologies
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You’ll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Have an MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or other relevant technical discipline
  • Have 7+ years of relevant experience in thermal science, thermal modeling and analysis for aerospace applications
  • Have proficiency in using structural/thermal simulation software - ABAQUS
