Northrop Grumman Space Systems Sector is seeking a Thermal Analysis: Engineer Systems Modeling & Simulation – Level 4 for the Chandler, AZ facility. You will perform a range of thermal engineering tasks and apply theory to design challenges in missile and space systems.

The role emphasizes heat transfer analyses, software proficiency, and interpretation of customer requirements. Candidates should have a strong thermal background and be able to obtain a US Government Secret clearance.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Northrop Grumman Space System Sector is looking for a Thermal Analysis : Engineer Systems Modeling & Simulation – Level 4 to join the Thermal Analysis team within Launch Vehicles at the Chandler, AZ facility.

Essential Functions:
  • Under minimal direction, perform a variety of thermal engineering tasks of an analysis, design, or test nature
  • Apply theoretical knowledge and engineering techniques to the solution of analytical engineering problems
  • Select and/or modify proven methods, mathematical formulas, previous design and test information, handbook data or other available information related to the assignment
  • Thermal analysis of avionics, structures, and thermal protection systems (TPS)
  • Perform heat transfer analysis of components and systems on the ground and in space
  • Take direction and address issues using skills obtained in the field of engineering, or related thermal sciences as it relates to missile and space systems
  • Use classical heat transfer methods and software to predict temperatures and design thermal protection of rocket components on the ground and in flight
  • Learn and develop proficiency with thermal software, Thermal Desktop, ATAC, StarCCM+, FIAT, and other specialized thermal analysis codes
  • Interpret, select, and apply company/commercial/military specifications and customer requirements to accomplish specific analyses
  • Produce engineering documentation and technical reports/analyses to support design, integration, and testing efforts
  • Responsible for gathering, compiling, and interpreting technical data such as flight data, test data, or material test reports
  • Other duties upon request
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 8 years of related engineering experience, OR a Master's in STEM with 6 years of experience, or a PhD in STEM with 4 years related engineering experience
  • Ability to obtain a US Government Secret security clearance
  • Strong thermal background with demonstrated work experience and knowledge as a thermal analyst supporting launch vehicle and/or missile programs
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and specifications
  • Familiarity with thermodynamics, aerodynamics, compressible flow, and TPS design
  • Computer skills with standard word processing/spreadsheet experience
  • Ability to listen effectively, take direction, and possess initiative to accomplish assigned tasks and complete work in a timely fashion
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical and/or Aerospace principles
  • Active US Government Secret security clearance, or higher at the time of application
  • Thermal Desktop, StarCCM+, and Matlab experience
  • Excellent written, and verbal communication skills

Primary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.

In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
