Description:This position is based in the Client Department with a primary focus on providing Physical Therapy Assistant treatments.Physical therapy is a core service provided by this organization.The role requires performing duties in a professional manner, respecting confidentiality, and demonstrating qualities endorsed by following the standards for service excellence.

Services must be provided in compliance with standards, licensure requirements, regulatory and practice standards of Physical Therapy, and national professional guidelines.Physical therapist assistants (PTAs) work as part of a team to provide physical therapy services under the direction and supervision of the physical therapist.PTAs implement selected components of patient/client interventions, obtain data related to the interventions provided, and make modifications to ensure patient/client safety and comfort.PTAs assist in the treatment of individuals of all ages who have medical problems or other health-related conditions that limit their abilities to move and perform functional activities.

The physical therapist is responsible for the services provided by the PTA.Physical therapists examine individuals and develop a treatment plan to promote the ability to move, reduce pain, restore function, and prevent disability.PTAs cannot attempt to practice physical therapy that has not been initiated, supervised, and terminated by a licensed physical therapist.

Documentation of patient encounter findings and treatments must be completed in accordance with hospital policies.Services are to be provided in a timely manner after receipt of referral, in both inpatient and outpatient populations.PTAs may direct the work of support staff, students, or interns, and develop, implement, and conduct patient education programs based on individual needs.

PTAs provide home exercise programs and advise patients and families on methods that facilitate self-care and independence.Administrative duties include assisting with clinic operations, maintaining supply stocks and clinical equipment, and keeping abreast of hospital directives.Therapy services may also be performed in various settings, including schools, clinics, community centers, and homes.

Participation in health promotion teams may be required.Video conferencing may be used for patient encounters, training, and administrative duties.Occasional travel to remote locations may be necessary.

Staff education on physical therapy issues is also part of the role.Continuous professional development is encouraged, including participation in clinical education and in-service training.Adherence to regulatory standards, confidentiality, and quality assurance is essential.

Physical demands of the job may include working in small spaces, engaging with diverse populations, and lifting greater than 50 pounds.Potential exposure to infectious organisms is present, and appropriate precautions must be observed.Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Physical therapy assistants work under the supervision of licensed physical therapists, who are responsible for patient care.Supervision guidelines must be followed, including regular consultations and documentation of the supervision provided.

Education and experience preferences may include clinical outpatient experience and knowledge of anatomy and physiology.Skills required include communicating effectively with patients and families, training patients in the use of adaptive devices, and proficiency in information technology.The ability to exercise sound judgment in all aspects of employment is critical.
