Job summary

Commonwealth of Kentucky's Cabinet for Health and Family Services seeks a Therapy Program Assistant for the Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center in LaGrange. This full-time position is in the executive branch with overtime eligibility and a 37.5 hour work week.

The role supports patients, escorts to activities, assists with treatment plans, and participates in team meetings while maintaining documentation and safety.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school graduate.
  • Experience: One year of therapeutic or patient care experience.
  • Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: College will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

  • Provides support and supervision to patients during basic Activities of Daily Living (ADL) and IADL (Instrumental) care and safety monitoring according to patient needs.
  • Escorts and transports patients to groups and appointments on and off grounds, carries out treatment plans, utilizes therapeutic communication, de-escalation and crisis prevention intervention techniques within hospital standards.
  • Conducts patient group sessions in accordance with treatment plans designed and administered by a qualified mental health professional.
  • Contributes to patient recovery by leading psychoeducational skill development.
  • Completes documentation related to patient participation and progress within established time frames and per federal, state and facility guidelines.
  • Participates in and directs quality improvement initiatives related to direct patient care.
  • Collaborates with treatment team to plan and provide treatment.
  • Attends and participates in required staff and treatment team meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Description

Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center is located in LaGrange, Kentucky and performs competency evaluations for persons in Kentucky. We are the only forensic hospital in the state, serving all 120 counties. Our team has a 37.50 hour work week and includes health insurance, life insurance, paid leave and retirement benefits. We are expanding our Recovery Services and are in search of self-motivated and energetic Therapy Program Assistants who possess the skill, knowledge, and desire to be part of our team.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

The ideal candidate would have:

  • Clear and compassionate communication skills.
  • Conflict resolution and familiarity with de-escalation techniques. Organizational skills – ability to keep accurate records and keep schedules.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Attention to detail, especially regarding safety and patient monitoring.
  • Basic understanding of psychiatric disorders and behavioral health needs.

Minimum Requirements

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 9 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
