Main Tasks Include:

The Inpatient Therapist/Case Manager

provides patient care for an assigned group of patients who are on the inpatient psychiatric unit, on the psychiatric consult team and in the Emergency Department according to an established schedule and plan of care. Under the leadership of The Case Management Department, the Inpatient Therapist/Case Manager will be responsible for providing direct patient care that is congruent with the philosophy and standards of practice defined by the Department of Case Management. As an active participant in the interdisciplinary team, the Inpatient Therapist/Case Manager is responsible for conducting intake and psychosocial assessments, case management activities, such as discharge planning, group and individual therapy and crisis intervention for patients who are on the inpatient psychiatric unit, on the psychiatric consult team and in the Emergency Department.

Qualifications
Education Requirements
  • Master’s degree in social work with an active Licensed Graduate Social Work (LGSW) or Licensed Independent Social Work (LICSW) license in The District of Columbia.
Experience
  • One year or more of group counseling/therapy experience with adults
Skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people who have a chronic mental illness, psychosis, severe depression, and/or substance abuse issues
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with people who are under physical and/or emotional stress and to remain calm when under stress or in emergency situations
  • Ability to work in a team setting and in group situations
License / Certification
  • Must be able to assist in the physical restraint of disturbed patients utilizing Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) model. Required to obtain within 3 months of hire.
