Job summary

Broadlawns Medical Center is seeking an Activities Specialist to develop and implement therapeutic group activities for Inpatient Behavioral Health patients. Under supervision of the Nursing Director, you will create a weekly events calendar, track participation, and support a safe, therapeutic milieu.

You will use evidence-based practices to manage aggressive behavior, provide direct patient care, and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to promote patient growth and skill development.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED required.
• Two years college in Therapeutic Recreation, Human Services or related field.
• One year college in Human Services or related field or two years experience as BHT.
• One year or recent experience as recreational therapist aid or activity specialist.

Responsibilities

• Provides therapeutic communication with patients one-to-one and in groups.
• Selects or creates therapeutic activities aligned with patient needs.
• Creates and posts a weekly events calendar for patients and staff.
• Tracks and reports patient participation in activities/groups.
• Uses evidence-based practice to manage aggressive behavior.
• Maintains therapeutic milieu to minimize restraints while ensuring safety.
• Delivers therapeutic experiences supporting patient growth and skill development.

Education

HS Diploma or GED

Two years college in Therapeutic Recreation or Human Services

One year college in Human Services

Two years recent experience as Behavioral Health Technician

One year recent experience as Recreational Therapist Aid / Activity Specialist
