Job summary

AltaPointe Health Systems seeks a dedicated Therapeutic Mentor to support youth and young adults, building trusting relationships and guiding them through age-appropriate behaviors and recovery-focused activities.

You will cooperate with treatment teams, facilitate group discussions, and help participants access community supports. The role requires flexibility, a valid driver’s license, and completion of required certifications within six months.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; a valid, verifiable driver’s license; reliable transportation; ability to work flexible hours including evenings/weekends; readiness to attend Therapeutic Mentor training within six months.

Responsibilities

  • Provide youth with support by building trusting relationships.
  • Coach and train youth in age-appropriate behaviors.
  • Coach youth to solve problems and resolve conflicts.
  • Offer guidance to youth as they receive services.
  • Attend one-on-one or treatment team meetings to discuss ideas and expectations.
  • Foster social interaction to develop social and recreational skills and insight into mental illness.
  • Promote recovery-oriented skills toward treatment goals.
  • Connect youth to community supports and programs.
  • Help participants develop empowerment through self-advocacy.
  • Be a resource and safe person for youth to approach with questions.
  • Plan and run peer support groups on recovery topics.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
  • Document in a timely, clear manner per AltaPointe policy.
  • Seeks supervision and implements feedback.
  • Attend required staff meetings.
  • Maintain courteous and respectful attitudes toward participants, visitors, and coworkers.

Clinical Record Keeping


  • Documents in a timely fashion per AltaPointe policy

  • Documents legibly and in a clear and concise manner

  • Documents individualized participant responses to services provided



Supervision and Consultation


  • Seeks supervision and consultation as needed

  • Accepts and employs suggestions for improvement

  • Actively works to enhance skills

  • Attends and participates in staff meetings as required

Administrative and Other Related Duties as Assigned


  • Actively participates in Performance Improvement activities

  • Actively participates in AltaPointe committees as required

  • Completes assigned tasks in a timely manner

  • Follows AltaPointe policies and procedures

  • Attends appropriate in-services training and other workshops



High school diploma or its equivalent; a valid, verifiable driver’s license, a good driving record, reliable transportation and verifiable vehicle liability insurance; ability to work flexible hours including evening and weekend hours; ability to attend DMH-approved Therapeutic Mentor training for certification; knowledge of youth/young adult specific competencies, outlined below, to be attained within six (6) months of employment



  • Knowledge of psychiatric disorders in the youth/young adult population

  • Knowledge of cultural diversity

  • Knowledge of the Alabama Department of Mental Health and Medicaid standards

  • Knowledge of behavior management, crisis intervention, as well as non-violent crisis intervention practices.

  • Knowledge of a recovery-oriented treatment approach

  • Ability to communicate effectively with multi-disciplinary team

  • Ability to connect to youth/young adults and share skills and knowledge with others
