Job summary

We are seeking a highly qualified and board-certified (or board-eligible) Therapeutic Medical Physicist to provide onsite locum tenens and vacation coverage for the Radiation Oncology Service at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center in Mountain Home, TN.

In this role, you will work closely with the Radiation Oncology clinical team to ensure accurate treatment planning, deliver high-quality patient care, and perform required routine quality assurance (QA) on linear accelerators and CT simulators.

Qualifications

• Board-certified or board-eligible in Therapeutic Medical Physics by ABR or ABMP.
• Minimum 2 years of continuous, active clinical experience in medical physics.
• Master's or Doctorate in Medical Physics or related field.

Responsibilities

• Provide onsite clinical physics support during standard hours.
• Perform and review 3D, IMRT/VMAT, IGRT, and SRS/SBRT plans.
• Execute monthly and annual QA testing, calibrations, and verifications.
• Ensure VA safety guidelines, NRC regulations, and HIPAA compliance.
• Collaborate with oncologists, dosimetrists, and therapists on complex cases.

Position Type: Contract / Locum Tenens / PRN (Vacation & Monthly/Annual QA Coverage).

Estimated Hours: ~240 Clinical Hours + 12 Monthly/Annual QA Sessions.

Pay Rate: Competitive / Negotiable (Hourly rate commensurate with experience and board certification status).

In this role, you will work closely with the Radiation Oncology clinical team to ensure accurate treatment planning, deliver high-quality patient care, and perform required routine quality assurance (QA) on linear accelerators and CT simulators.

Key Responsibilities

• Clinical Physics Support: Provide onsite clinical medical physics services during standard operational hours (Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM).
• Treatment Planning & Quality Assurance: Perform and review 3D, IMRT/VMAT, IGRT, and SRS/SBRT treatment plans.
• Equipment Calibrations & QA: Execute monthly and annual quality assurance testing, output verifications, and calibrations across two linear accelerators and one CT simulator.
• Safety & Compliance: Ensure full compliance with VA safety guidelines, NRC regulations, HIPAA/privacy standards, and departmental standard operating procedures.
• Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Consult with radiation oncologists, dosimetrists, and radiation therapists on complex treatment cases and clinical workflows.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: Master’s (M.S.) or Doctorate (Ph.D.) degree in Medical Physics or a closely related physical science discipline.
• Certification: Board Certified or Board Eligible by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) or American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP) in Therapeutic Medical Physics.
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of continuous, active clinical experience in medical physics within the last 3 years.
• Technical Skills: Proven clinical competence in 3D treatment planning, IMRT/VMAT, IGRT, SRS/SBRT, 4D CT simulation, and modern QA equipment.
• Certifications & Clearances:
  • Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Ability to pass VA background security checks and obtain a PIV badge.
  • Up-to-date health records/immunization compliance (TB screening, Tdap, Hepatitis B, MMR, Varicella, annual Influenza).
