Job summary

Keystone Area Education Agency is seeking Substitute Teachers for the Specialized Therapeutic Behavior Program during the 2026–2027 school year at the Keystone AEA facility in Elkader, Iowa. The role supports students with significant social-emotional and behavioral needs while maintaining a safe, structured learning environment.

Qualifications

• Active Iowa Teaching License or active Iowa Substitute Teaching License required.
• Experience working with students with behavioral, social-emotional, or special education needs preferred.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to follow established classroom routines, instructional plans, and behavior support procedures.
• Ability to remain calm, professional, and flexible in a dynamic classroom environment.
• Substitute/as-needed schedule.
• School-day hours based on program needs.
• Opportunities may range from individual-day assignments to longer-term substitute coverage, depending on program needs.

Responsibilities

• Provide classroom instruction and supervision in the absence of the regular teacher.
• Follow lesson plans, classroom routines, and established instructional practices.
• Support students with academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs; implement established behavior supports and classroom expectations.
• Work collaboratively with classroom associates, AEA staff, and program team members.
• Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive classroom environment.
• Communicate relevant information to program staff regarding the school day.
• Maintain student confidentiality and professional standards.
• Patient and student-centered approach.
• Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills.
