Job summary

Warren State Hospital, part of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, is seeking a Therapeutic Activities Worker to guide therapeutic and educational activities for individuals in our care.

You will work with consumers and staff to develop meaningful sessions, perform assessments, assign activities, collaborate in treatment planning, and ensure safe, prepared materials for daily therapeutic spaces.

Qualifications

  • Four years of experience providing therapeutic activities for individuals with disabilities or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in therapeutic recreation, physical education, vocational rehabilitation, or related human services field; or equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Eligible within 3 months of graduating to meet educational requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Create and conduct activity sessions across living units and hospital areas.
  • Complete admission assessments, reassessments, and progress documentation.
  • Match consumers with suitable recreation activities based on interviews and team input.
  • Attend treatment team meetings and support individualized goals and progress.
  • Maintain supplies and ensure safe materials for therapy spaces.

Join the Department of Human Services (DHS) as a Therapeutic Activities Worker at Warren State Hospital and help support meaningful growth for the individuals in our care. This role allows you to make a positive impact by guiding both therapeutic and educational activities. Here, you will work closely with consumers and staff to encourage progress and confidence.

This position develops and leads therapeutic and educational activities that support consumer treatment and recovery at Warren State Hospital. The role helps individuals build skills, confidence, and healthy routines to incorporate into their every day lives. As a Therapeutic Activities Worker, you will perform the following duties:

  • Therapeutic Programming: Create and conduct activity sessions across living units, recovery programs, and designated hospital areas
  • Patient Assessment: Complete admission assessments, reassessments, and progress documentation for all assigned individuals
  • Activity Assignment: Match consumers with suitable recreation activities based on interviews, assessments, and treatment team input
  • Team Collaboration: Attend treatment team meetings, provide input on individualized goals, and support methodologies for consumer progress
  • Equipment Management: Maintain supplies, repair items, and ensure safe and ready materials for therapeutic activity areas

Work Schedule and Additional Information
  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours/week
  • Work hours are 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with a 30-minute lunch. This position operates on a rotating schedule.
  • Travel and overtime may be required as needed.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements
  • Four years of experience providing therapeutic activities for individuals with physical, medical, or cognitive disabilities; or
  • A bachelor’s degree with major coursework in therapeutic recreation; physical education; vocational rehabilitation; vocational education or counseling; art, music, dance, or occupational therapies; or a related human services field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Legal Requirements
  • A conditional offer of employment will require a drug screening and medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
