Job summary

Ingham County Medical Care Facility is seeking a Therapeutic Activities Aide to assist in planning, implementing, and delivering activities for Residents/Patients. You will support participation at the highest level of functioning and help coordinate routine activity sessions.

This role involves assisting staff, organizing supplies, conducting 1:1 and group activities, and helping with outings and special events.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Experience working with geriatric patients.
  • Interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with residents/patients, families, volunteers, and Facility personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Assists Residents/Patients throughout activities so each may participate at the highest level of functioning.
  • Assists Therapeutic Activities Staff in keeping supplies clean and organized.
  • Assists with 1:1 resident/patient activities.
  • Assists with care planning for each Resident/Patient.
  • Assists with outings and special events.
  • Charts progress of Residents/Patients involved in activities therapy and maintains record for the department.
  • Initiates programs with Residents/Patients and follows through independently as needed.
  • Leads Resident/Patient activity programs for large and small groups, including sensory stimulation groups.
  • Transports Residents/Patients to and from activities.
  • Works as part of a team.
  • All other duties as assigned.

GENERAL SUMMARY

Therapeutic Activities Aide assists in the planning, implementation, and performance of therapeutically oriented activities and/or training programs for Residents/Patients.

PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assists Resident/Patients throughout activity so each Resident/Patient may participate at the highest level of functioning.
  • Assists Therapeutic Activities Staff in keeping supplies clean and organized.
  • Assists with 1:1 resident/patient activities.
  • Assists with care planning for each Resident/Patient.
  • Assists with outings and special events.
  • Charts progress of Residents/Patients involved in activities therapy and maintains record for the department.
  • Initiates programs with Residents/Patients and follows through independently as needed.
  • Leads Resident/Patient activity programs for both large and small group activities, which include sensory stimulation groups for designated Residents/Patients.
  • Transports Residents/Patients to and from activities.
  • Works as part of a team.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • High school graduate or equivalent.

  • Interpersonal skills to communicate effectively and appropriately with residents/patients, families, volunteers, and Facility personnel.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Able to lift up to seventy-five (75) pounds.
  • Push/pull wheeled carts and chairs weighing up to three hundred (300) pounds or more.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Works in the resident/patient rooms, activity room and other areas of the Facility with exposure to abnormal behaviors, noise, and unpleasant odors.
  • Potential for exposure to hazardous chemicals and materials.
  • Potential for exposure to blood borne pathogens and other infectious diseases.
  • Unpredictable breaks scheduled around resident/patient care and activity needs.
  • Hours will vary beyond a regular schedule depending on resident/patient activity needs and schedules.
