Job summary

Grand Traverse Resort is seeking an experienced bartender to join its beverage team. You will prepare standard mixed drinks, pour wine and beer, and serve guests at lounge and restaurant bars.

You must handle orders from guests and servers, maintain speed and accuracy while minimizing waste, and ensure a welcoming atmosphere. The role requires 18+ years old, a high school diploma, TIPS certification within 90 days, and solid knowledge of beer, wine and liquor.

Responsibilities

  • Operate MICROS Computer System.
  • Prepare drink orders given from Servers.
  • Mix cocktails and other drinks; prep coffee drinks as needed.
  • Serve wine and draft or bottled beer.
  • Stock bar supplies and garnishes; maintain sanitation and safety.
  • Balance shift ending paperwork and daily cash drop; end-of-shift tasks.
  • Present check and explain payment methods and discounts.
  • Maintain open communication with supervisor and follow environmental practices.

Job description

SUMMARY

Bartenders prepare and serve drinks to customers in lounge and restaurants. Prepare standard mixed drinks and pour wine and beer. They must be able to prepare drinks quickly, accurately, and without waste. Bartenders are responsible for taking orders directly from guests and drink orders from servers. Also serves food to guests seated at the bar.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide quality products, excellent service and a friendly atmosphere for all guests
  • Operate MICROS Computer System
  • Prepare drink orders given from Servers
  • Mixes ingredients such as liquor, soda, water, sugar, and bitters to prepare cocktails and other drinks. Follow recipes and mix an assortment of coffee drinks
  • Serves wine and draft or bottled beer
  • Slices and pits fruit for garnishing drinks
  • Replenishes bar snacks such as chips, pretzels, and nuts
  • Maintain a high standard of sanitation and safety in all work areas
  • Stock necessary supplies and set‑ups
  • Maintains constant watch on guest’s alcohol tolerance levels
  • Present check and explain available payment methods and discounts
  • Attend all mandatory meetings as required and safety training
  • Balance shift ending paperwork and daily cash drop. Complete all end of shift paperwork.
  • Complete all assignments requested of you
  • Maintain an open line of communication with supervisor and upper management
  • Must understand and abide by environmental practices of the resort
  • Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • Must be 18 years of age, as required by law
  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent
  • TIPS certified or obtained within 90 days of employment
  • Strong knowledge of restaurant operations, service procedures and function
  • Must have above average knowledge of beer, wine and liquor and common drink recipes
  • Must have previous bartending experience
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Must have a sense for time and urgency and be able to complete tasks and projects in a timely manner
  • Must have excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Must be highly motivated with a positive attitude and have the ability to multi‑task
  • Applicant must be able to work well as an individual and as a member of a team with a goal of providing outstanding guest service
  • Must be able to carry both small and large trays of food and beverages
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must have the ability to stand for prolonged periods of time. Constant stooping, bending and carrying of items that sometimes exceed 30 pounds however limited to 100Ibs.

  • Requires the ability to interact with people beyond giving and receiving instructions
  • Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with an emergency
  • Must be able to effectively handle stressful and compromising situations while remaining focused and professional
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Must be willing and able to work in a fast‑paced typical restaurant or kitchen environment
  • Must follow all safety policies, procedures and standards as set by OSHA and the Health Department
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including days, evenings, weekends and holidays. Request time off are only granted if business allows
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Majority of work is indoors, but may be required to serve guests outdoors in very warm weather
