Job summary

Goodwill Industries Group in Portage, IN is seeking a Store Associate to receive, sort, price, tag, and stock donations for a fast-paced retail store. You will ensure donations flow smoothly from drive-thru to the sales floor and report to Store Manager or Production Manager.

The role requires ability to meet performance targets (80 PPH) and an understanding of the Goodwill mission. Wages progress from $11 to $17 per hour based on PPH performance.

Responsibilities

• Sort, price, and tag donated textiles at a minimum rate of 80 pieces per hour (PPH), maintaining quality standards.
• Retrieve Textile Production Sheet at the beginning of each shift and turn it in upon completion.
• Transport carts containing items to be processed.
• Process donations promptly.
• Dispose of trash into designated True Trash receptacles as needed.
• Organize racks for efficient stocking.
• Daily recording of PPH for tracking purposes is mandatory.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Job Objective: To receive, sort, price, tag, and stock donations, keeping the flow of donations moving quickly from drive‑thru to the sales floor, and to generally aid in the smooth operation of a fast‑paced retail store. This position reports to Store Manager and/or Production Manager who evaluates performance annually.

Essential Job Functions

• Sort, price, and tag donated textiles at a minimum rate of 80 pieces per hour (PPH), maintaining quality standards.
• Retrieve Textile Production Sheet at the beginning of each shift and turn it in upon completion.
• Transport carts containing items to be processed.
• Process donations promptly.

Pay Levels

• Level 1 (Training): Below 80 PPH – Starting rate at $11 per hour (standard rate subject to state minimum wage).
• Level 2: 80‑90 PPH – Increases to $15 per hour upon reaching 80 PPH for the first time.
• Level 3 (High Performers): 91‑110 PPH – Increases to $16 per hour (requires a 3‑week average of at least 91 before pay change is effective).
• Level 4 (High Performers): 111‑130+ PPH – Increases to $17 per hour (requires a 3‑week average of at least 111 before pay change is effective).

Employees must maintain the required PPH to stay at the high performer pay level. If the PPH falls below the level, a three‑week improvement period is implemented; failure to improve may result in performance discussions and associated pay adjustments.

Additional Expectations

• Daily recording of PPH for tracking purposes is mandatory. Failure to do so may impact pay rate.
• Z‑racks are considered 100 pieces per rack.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
