Job Details

The Textile Design Visiting Assistant Professor will be a collaborative member of the Textile Design faculty: teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, contributing to departmental initiatives, participating in service opportunities, and engaging in ongoing professional development activities. The ideal candidate will have artistic and technical proficiency in multiple textile platforms, with demonstrated excellence in teaching and relevant textile design industry experience.

Responsibilities Include:

  1. Teach textile design studio and/or technical courses (three or four 3-credit courses per semester)
  2. Collaborate with Textile Design leadership to facilitate departmental activities
  3. Participate in service to the Textile Design programs, the School of Design and Engineering, Kanbar College, and the University as needed
  4. Collaborate with faculty across disciplines
  5. Engage with co-workers, visitors, and other staff in line with Jefferson's values

Job Description

Qualifications:

Master's degree in Textile Design or Bachelor's degree in Textile Design with related industry experience. Three or more years of textile industry experience preferred. University teaching experience is also preferred.

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required):

  • Knowledge of textile industry trends and technologies
  • Proven ability in industry-standard technical woven design, print design, and/or knit design; knowledge across multiple platforms is preferred
  • Ability to develop textile collections from concept to curation
  • Strong instruction skills and lesson planning abilities, with excellent communication skills
  • Interest in sustainable materials and technologies
  • Collaborative nature; ability to work with diverse groups of people
  • Attention to detail and ability to multi-task
