Job summary

Allied Instructional Texas is seeking certified Teachers of the Visually Impaired (TVIs) in the Houston area to join our team of independent contractors. TVIs travel to local schools to provide in-person services to students with visual impairments, working as part of the educational team.

The ideal candidate will hold a Professional License in visual impairment, have experience writing IEPs/504 plans, and be proficient with assessments such as FVALMA.

Qualifications

• Must hold a Professional License in visual impairment.
• Experience writing and implementing IEPs and 504 plans.
• Knowledge of Braille and low-vision skills.
• Ability to work independently as an itinerant TVI.
• Strong collaboration with teachers, parents and staff.

Job Description

Seeking independent contractors: AIS is seeking certified Teachers of the Visually Impaired (TVIs) in the Houston, Texas area to join our team of independent contractors. TVIs are itinerant and provide in-person services to students with visual impairments and blindness in local school divisions. This is a full-time onsite position.

The TVIs serve as members of a student’s educational team, providing comprehensive assessments and services to school-aged students. The TVI assists in developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with visual impairments. The candidate must possess a working knowledge of assessments and instructional practices, evidence-based research, recommended best practices, technologies available for low- and high-tech AT, and the expected roles and responsibilities of a TVI within a school environment.

Responsibilities

• Strong human relations, interpersonal communication, conflict resolution, organizational, and planning skills.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the characteristics of individuals with a variety of disabilities, especially visual impairments.
• Ability to recognize and respond to individual student differences.
• Ability to work in a collaborative and cooperative manner.
