Job summary

Core Development Group LLC in New Jersey is seeking a Testing & Commissioning Technician to lead commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, and optimization of commercial and industrial solar PV systems. You will ensure assets are safely commissioned and operating reliably according to design specs, code, and customer expectations.

Responsibilities include pre-commissioning, acceptance testing, equipment verification, troubleshooting, field inspections, and reporting with turnover

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or technical certification in electrical technology, renewable energy, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in solar PV installation, commissioning, operations, or maintenance.

  • Inspect, test, and verify system installations for compliance with project drawings, technical specifications, codes, utility requirements, and company standards.
  • Troubleshoot system performance issues, equipment failures, communication faults, and other electrical or operational deficiencies.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance, field inspections, thermal imaging, IV curve testing, and performance evaluations.
  • Coordinate commissioning and service activities with project teams, utilities, vendors, and customers.
  • Prepare commissioning reports, maintenance records, service documentation, and turnover packages.

Testing & Commissioning Technician

Reports to: VP of Operations

Position Summary

The O&M, Testing & Commissioning Technician plays a key role in the commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, and optimization of commercial and industrial solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. This position is responsible for ensuring solar assets are safely commissioned, operating reliably, and performing in accordance with design specifications, code requirements, and customer expectations throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities
  • Perform pre-commissioning, commissioning, acceptance testing, and maintenance of commercial and industrial solar PV systems and associated electrical equipment.
  • Inspect, test, and verify system installations for compliance with project drawings, technical specifications, applicable codes, utility requirements, and company standards.
  • Troubleshoot system performance issues, equipment failures, communication faults, and other electrical or operational deficiencies.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance, field inspections, thermal imaging, IV curve testing, and performance evaluations to support system reliability and energy production.
  • Coordinate commissioning and service activities with project teams, utilities, vendors, and customers to support project closeout and ongoing operations.
  • Prepare commissioning reports, maintenance records, service documentation, and turnover packages with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Perform all work in accordance with company safety policies, OSHA regulations, NFPA 70E, NEC, and applicable local codes, including lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Associate degree or technical certification in electrical technology, renewable energy, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in solar PV installation, commissioning, operations, or maintenance, with a strong understanding of commercial and industrial systems.
  • Knowledge of inverters, transformers, switchgear, monitoring systems, electrical testing equipment, and solar performance diagnostics.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical one-line diagrams, construction drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Experience using multimeters, insulation resistance testers, thermal cameras, power quality analyzers, and similar diagnostic tools.
  • Familiarity with NEC, OSHA, NFPA 70E, and standard electrical safety practices; NABCEP certification preferred.
  • Experience with rooftop, carport, and ground-mounted solar systems; exposure to energy storage systems (BESS) and EV charging infrastructure is a plus.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Valid driver’s license, willingness to travel to project sites, and proficiency with Microsoft Office and solar monitoring platforms.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
  • Ability to climb ladders and access rooftops.
  • Ability to lift to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and perform field work for extended periods.
