Job summary

A leading engineering services firm in Lancaster County is looking for a Testing and Commissioning Engineer with a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering and 2-5 years of experience. Job description
Overview

TRC is one of the premier national providers of testing and commissioning solutions. Our staff undergoes extensive in-house training, ensuring efficient project start up and adherence to individual standards and specifications. We follow well documented procedures and guidelines to ensure safe and thorough planning and testing, so we can manage risk and safeguard ongoing operations.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, coordinate, perform and document all commissioning activities (pre-commissioning through construction, testing -- commissioning, energization, project close out) of various utility substation protection, control and power circuits in accordance with TRC's and Client's requirements, budgets, and schedules
  • Review wiring diagrams, schematics, and engineering documents in advance of projects and outages
  • Perform troubleshooting and problem analysis associated with protection and control systems and utility substation equipment, including but not limited to: Application Errors and Omissions, Drawing Errors and Omissions, Wiring Errors and Omissions, Settings Errors and Omissions, Equipment Malfunctions, Questionable Apparatus Test Results, Battery Ground Faults
  • Participate in project meetings including kickoff, planning, progress, and lessons learned meetings
  • Prepare detailed daily, weekly, and project completion reports and documentation that include project progress, issues or problems, recommendations, test results and analyses
  • Assist in developing project-specific testing and commissioning plans, energization plans, or other assigned project documentation
  • Identify risks and mitigation techniques on utility systems and equipment. Develop a Site Risk Assessment to document high-risk construction and commissioning activities and formalize circuit isolation and restoration processes to ensure no unintended operations of station equipment and personnel safety
  • Ensure all applicable tests and commissioning activities are performed on every piece of equipment or system in accordance with planning and project documents. Ensure test results are acceptable and properly filed and distributed
  • Develop detailed test reports of various electrical equipment and review and approve test reports
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical or Power Systems preferred) from an accredited school or university with 2–5 years of related experience in testing and commissioning services. Electric Utility experience is preferred; training available for engineers with commissioning experience in complex commercial-industrial equipment including protective relays. Project located in Mid-Atlantic.
  • Ability to read and understand construction and manufacturer drawings and specifications as well as schematic diagrams
  • Strong knowledge of electrical protection systems, including relay communication; basic understanding of AC and DC schematics, wiring and drawings, one-line and three-line diagrams
  • Experience in medium and high voltage substation and power plant equipment; ability to perform basic apparatus testing and interpret results with supervision
  • Solid testing and commissioning knowledge of substation protection and control circuits; ability to conduct and document commissioning activities with supervision
  • Experience with Doble Protection Suite and/or ProTest, SEL AcSELerator, Enoserv RTS is highly preferred
  • Current US work eligibility and a valid US driver’s license in good standing
  • Willingness to travel out of town for extended periods
  • Ability to work flexible hours, weekends, overtime, holidays and night shifts
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to negotiate effectively with clients and team

Compensation

In accordance with local law, the salary range is USD 50.00 – 55.50 per hour. Compensation varies by experience, education, skill level, location, and other factors.

Other Compensation

Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company's annual discretionary bonus program, contingent on company, business segment, and individual performance against KPIs which vary by year and employee.
