Job summary

Siemens Mobility in Johnson City, TN seeks a Test Technician to perform EMC and validation testing on industrial automation products on-site during daytime shifts. You will develop test methods, automate lab capabilities, and contribute to ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation efforts.

Qualifications

• Operate EMC equipment (LISNs, CDNs, RF generators, EFT, surge generators).
• Analyze, document, and report test results in a lab.
• Develop and execute functional verification and validation test plans.
• Experience with PLC hardware/software and industrial automation systems.
• Travel anticipated <5% domestically/internationally; able to lift up to 50 lbs; valid US driver’s license; authorized to work in US without sponsorship.

We are looking for Test Technician. This position will be based at our Johnson City, TN site. This position will work daytime shift and on site.

You’ll make an impact by:

• Ensuring the compliance, quality, and reliability of Siemens industrial automation products through EMC and functional validation testing
• Driving efficient certification and product release activities by developing robust test methods, automation solutions, and laboratory capabilities
• Supporting continuous improvement of an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory through quality initiatives, accreditation activities, and process optimization
• Collaborating with global engineering, product development, and certification teams to identify and resolve technical issues early in the product lifecycle
• Enhancing laboratory efficiency through the development of PLC-based automation, test equipment controls, and data monitoring solutions
• Ensure schedules are maintained and projects proceed in accordance with the client’s expectations
• Contributing to customer confidence and product success by delivering accurate, repeatable, and high-quality test results
• Maintain Quality Control Activity (QCA) records and associated performance trends to ensure the ongoing validity and reliability of laboratory test results
• Develop, maintain, and monitor Measurement Uncertainty (MU) records in accordance with established laboratory procedures and accreditation requirements

Basic Qualifications:

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, computer engineering, or a related technical discipline
• 2+ years of experience in an EMC, validation, or product testing laboratory environment
• Perform EMC testing in accordance with applicable standards with international standards such as IEC 61000, IEC 61326, CISPR, and IEC 61131-2.
• Experience operating EMC test equipment including LISNs, CDNs, RF generators, EFT, surge generators, and related instrumentation.
• Experience analyzing, documenting, and reporting test results in a laboratory environment
• Experience developing and executing functional verification and validation test plans
• Experience with PLC hardware, software, and industrial automation systems
• Travel anticipated <5% domestic and/or international.
• Experience using TIA Portal for PLC programming and automation applications
• Must be able to lift parts or sub-assemblies that weigh up to 50 lbs
• Must be 21 years of age and possess a valid driver's license with limited violations
• Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience in a laboratory environment, preferably with PLC products.
• Perform EMC testing in accordance with applicable standards, including but not limited to IEC 61131-2, IEC 61000-6-2, IEC 61000-6-4, IEC 61326-3-1/3-2, and other relevant EMC and functional safety standards.
• Operate EMC test equipment and setups, including LISNs, CDNs, RF generators, EFT, surge generators, and related instrumentation, ensuring proper cabling, shielding, and grounding practices in accordance with CISPR 16-2-1 and IEC 61000-4 series standards.
• Develop and perform functional verification and validation testing to ensure compliance with product specifications and correct operation of test equipment.
• Analyze, document, and report test results within an A2LA ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory environment.
• Develop laboratory-specific PLC hardware and software systems using TIA Portal (S7-1200/1500, WinCC, ET200, HMI, Safety) for test automation, equipment control, and data monitoring applications.
• Support and maintain the laboratory Quality Management System (QMS), including accreditation compliance, method reviews, corrective actions, procedural updates, and audit support.
• Participate in and contribute to ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation activities, continuous improvement initiatives, and both internal and external quality audits.
• Perform and manage quality assurance activities to ensure the validity of test results, including coordination of proficiency testing programs in accordance with ISO/IEC 17043 requirements.
• Support maritime EMC compliance testing in accordance with standards such as IACS E10, IEC 60092-504, and IEC 60533.

The pay range for this position is $68,830 - $117,994 annually with a target incentive of 5 of the base salary. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
