Job description

Matternet is building the future of delivery with autonomous drone networks that move critical goods faster, cleaner, and at lower cost. We work with partners across healthcare, logistics, food, and retail to deliver everything from medical items to everyday essentials, safely and reliably.

We are looking for a hands-on Test Technician to support electrical quality inspection, bench testing, failure analysis, and minor repair activities for electronic assemblies used in unmanned aircraft systems. This role will work closely with Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering and Supply Chain teams to ensure PCBAs, batteries, harnesses, and related electrical assemblies meet functional, quality, and reliability requirements. The ideal candidate has strong bench-level troubleshooting skills, experience working with PCB/PCBA assemblies, and the ability to safely use electrical test equipment, soldering tools, and ESD/EOS controls in a production or engineering environment.

In this role, you will perform:

  • Electrical Inspection and Quality Check
    • Perform incoming, in-process, and final electrical quality checks on PCBAs, batteries, cable harnesses, and related electronic assemblies.
    • Inspect PCBAs for workmanship issues, component placement, solder quality, damage, contamination, polarity, labeling, and general build quality.
    • Verify assemblies against drawings, work instructions, test procedures, schematics, BOMs, and quality requirements.Document inspection and test results, record test data, report defects and nonconformances clearly and accurately using JIRA.
  • Bench Testing and Test Execution
    • Set up and conduct bench-level electrical testing using approved procedures and test plans.
    • Operate common bench tools and test equipment, including multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, battery testers, signal generators, and related equipment.
    • Perform installation of boot loaders, drivers and application SW onto non-volatile memory or FPGA devices
    • Perform parametric evaluation using application based GUI tools, continuity checks, voltage/current measurements, resistance checks, functional tests, and basic signal verification.
    • Support battery quality checks, including charging capacity tests, discharging behavior, parameter evaluation application based GUI tools, and visual inspection.
    • Record, organize and maintain test results in the required system, spreadsheet, database, or quality record.
  • Failure Analysis and Troubleshooting
    • Troubleshoot failed PCBAs, batteries, harnesses, and electrical assemblies to identify the component level root cause. This includes performing component-level diagnosis using schematics, layout files, test procedures, and known-good comparison methods.
    • Support reliability physics based failure analysis reports by documenting symptoms, test steps, findings, photos, measurements, and repair actions.
    • Escalate complex or recurring issues to Quality/Reliability Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering depending on the potential issue source
  • PCBA Repair and Rework
    • Perform minor PCBA rework and repair, including component replacement, soldering, wire repair, connector replacement, and minor modifications.
    • Follow ESD/EOS controls, handling procedures, and safety requirements when working with sensitive electronic assemblies.
    • Maintain traceability of repair actions, replaced components, and retest results per the required methods described in the Quality Systems Manual
    • Ensure repaired assemblies are retested and verified before release, following the transaction process requirements of the ERP material tracking system
  • Test Fixture and Simple Assembly Support
    • Build and maintain simple electrical or mechanical assemblies, test jigs, harnesses, adapters, and fixtures to support testing and inspection.
    • Assist with setup, validation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of test fixtures and production test equipment.
    • Support continuous improvement of test procedures, work instructions, and fixture usability.
    • Provide feedback to Quality/Reliability, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams on testability, assembly issues, and opportunities to improve yield and efficiency.
  • Strong hands-on troubleshooting ability.
  • Good understanding of electrical safety and safe handling of Li-Ion and Lead-Acid batteries and energized equipment.
  • Ability to follow detailed procedures while also recognizing abnormal conditions.
  • Strong workmanship standards and attention to quality.
  • Clear written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced hardware development and production environment.
  • Organized, reliable, and disciplined in documentation and traceability.
  • Willingness to learn new products, tools, test methods, and quality processes.
  • Ability to work at an ESD-safe bench for extended periods.
  • Ability to handle small electronic components and perform detailed visual inspection.
  • Ability to lift and move test equipment, fixtures, batteries, and assemblies as required.
  • Comfortable working with hand tools, soldering equipment, electrical test equipment, and battery test setups.
  • Must follow all safety, ESD, battery handling, and quality procedures.
  • Experience with Jira and the PLM system is preferred.
