Job summary

Stellantis in Kokomo, Indiana is seeking a Test Garage Technician to join the Quality team at the Kokomo Transmission Plant. The role requires a hands-on, high-energy individual who can understand part functionality and identify root causes of failures.

You will work with Project Technicians and Resident Engineers to develop test plans, perform vehicle maintenance and testing, and communicate findings clearly. A background in automotive technology and strong teamwork is essential.

Qualifications

• Associates degree in automotive technology or HS diploma with ASE certification or equivalent experience.
• Strong root cause analysis and problem-solving for transmissions.
• Ability to operate Windows and camera equipment; good documentation skills.
• Willingness to work off-shift hours, holidays, and weekends if required.
• Team player with strong customer service and cross-functional collaboration.

• Vehicle maintenance, modification, and repair.
• Support engineering and durability testing.
• Confirm and investigate Functional Audit findings.
• Maintain area and equipment cleanliness.
• Provide training on transmission function to new engineering, management, or test garage personnel.
• May assist with special assignments as appropriate.

Stellantis is currently seeking a Test Garage Technician to join the Quality team in Kokomo, Indiana at the Kokomo Transmission Plant. The Test Garage Technician must have the ability to understand part functionality with proven experience to be able to identify the root cause of failures. The candidate must be high-energy, hands‑on individual with experience in working cross-functionally and possess a broad knowledge of the entire automotive Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality landscape. They will work with the Project Technician and Resident Engineers to develop and execute test plans and communicate their findings.

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Assemble and install, remove, disassemble and repair components and related parts.
• Root cause analysis of car plant and warranty returns
• Vehicle maintenance, modification, and repair
• Support engineering and durability testing
• Confirm and investigate Functional Audit findings
• Maintain area and equipment cleanliness.
• Provide training on transmission function to new engineering, management, or test garage personnel
• May assist with special assignments as appropriate.

Basic Qualifications:

• Associates Degree in Automotive Technology OR HS Diploma/GED and an ASE certification/equivalent experience
• Good verbal, written, and record keeping skills required
• Must have computer experience (Windows applications), camera skills
• Positive attitude, good teamwork and customer service skills
• Experience using hand, bench, and machine tools
• Experience systematically tearing down assemblies looking for root cause
• Ability to test electrical components such as relays, solenoids, switches, etc.
• Must be able to work in a diverse group with other staff members to address component issues as required
• Must be a team player and help in other components areas at a moment's notice
• Ability to drive a walk‑behind Hilo/stacker
• Willing to work off‑shift hours, holidays, and weekends if required

Preferred Qualifications:

• ASE Certification or Master Mechanic preferred
• Must have powertrain/drivetrain experience with disassembly and analyzing failed transmissions, electric motors, and related components
• Possess general vehicle operating knowledge with all vehicle components
• All candidates will be required to produce documents at time of interview
