Job summary

RTX is seeking a Test Equipment Software Lead for its Huntsville, AL facility. The role focuses on designing, developing, integrating, and maintaining software as part of on-site factory support for weapon system product development.

You will build applications, libraries, and instrument drivers using C++, C#, and other tools in Visual Studio on Windows. The ideal candidate has strong Windows development experience, hands-on leadership, and a background in test instrumentation and production

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with extensive experience or an advanced degree with relevant experience.
  • Experience developing and integrating software using languages such as C++, C#, Java, Python, or Visual Basic.
  • Experience with IDEs and debugging tools to verify software integrity.
  • Proficiency with Windows OS and Microsoft Visual Studio required.
  • Background in production/test instrumentation, electronics, or related software.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and integrate object-oriented software applications in C#, C++ within Visual Studio on Windows.
  • Lead and mentor junior to mid-career software engineers.
  • Troubleshoot software and test instrumentation in factory test platforms.
  • Develop software for automation production environments with thermal and vibration testing capabilities.
  • Drive consistency across multiple SW teams and engage with stakeholders to ensure factory readiness.

Job Summary

The Test Solutions Engineering Center (TSEC) team Hardware Discipline Directorate is a multi-discipline organization responsible for developing advanced windows application solutions for all Raytheon products. We are hands-on, designers using the latest technology and tools, and integrating state-of-the-art software solutions with the most advanced engineering systems in the world. TEE products are in engineering labs, in the field, and in production environments utilized for weapon system products. TEE has job opportunities across all phases of the engineering lifecycle, including demonstrations, early engineering tests, design verification tests, production, and post-production sustainment.

We have an excited opportunity for a full-time position as Test Equipment Software Lead. This position is focused on the design, development, integration, and maintenance of software as a part of on-site factory support of systems to support weapon system product development. The selected candidate will develop applications, libraries, and instrument drivers using the software style, development language, and integrated development environment specified by the organization.

Supported Products
  • The SM-6 missile is designed to provide capability combining anti-air warfare, terminal ballistic missile defense, and anti-surface warfare in a single weapon system.

  • The SM3-IIA and SM3-IB missiles are kill vehicles designed to develop and deploy a layered defense system to protect against ballistic missile threats.

What You Will Do
  • Lead by example, adheres to, and ensures alignment with Raytheon Values and Behaviors

  • Design, develop and integrate object-oriented software applications using C#, C++ in Microsoft Visual Studio in a Windows Operating System (OS)

  • Prioritize and handle multiple software engineering tasks concurrently

  • Troubleshoot software and test equipment instrumentation in Common Factory Test Platform (CFTP) solutions

  • Provide Solutions that work in an Automation production environment with test solutions that have thermal and vibration testing capabilities

  • Work in a multidiscipline engineering team environment

  • Interact and engage with Engineering, Operations Managers, Operations PTEs, Directorate leads, Program Leaders as well as Functional leaders to drive factory readiness and robustness

  • Develop and derive requirements for software products

  • Lead and mentor junior and mid-career software engineers

  • Drive consistency and commonality across multiple product SW teams

Qualifications You Must Have
  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience, or an Advanced degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience.

  • Experience in developing and integrating software applications using programming languages including but not limited to ATEasy, C++, C#, Java, Python or Visual Basic.

  • Experience in utilizing integrated development environments and debugging tools to troubleshoot software implementation and ensure integrity of the software products.

  • Prior experience in Windows Operating System and Microsoft Visual Studio is required.

  • Prior experience in factory/laboratory test instrumentation, electronics, and software (Ex. oscilloscopes, power supplies, digital multimeters)

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer
  • Experience developing Production Test Equipment in an Automation environment

  • Experience in KMES, Common Test Platforms, Keysight and/or Teradyne products

  • Experience with computer architecture and computer hardware optimization techniques

  • Experience of the development of software drivers for the operation of computer hardware interfaces

  • Experience in common computer hardware interface and data protocols such as TCP/IP, UDP, or RS-422

  • Experience with Unified Modeling Language (UML) to visualize software architecture and design

  • Experience in software development lifecycles, such as Waterfall and Agile

  • Experience with Software Configuration Management principles

  • Experience with Microsoft Azure DevOps Server or GitHub

  • Written and interpersonal communication skills

  • Experience in leading teams/projects in a technical capacity

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills. Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.
