Job summary

magniX in Everett, Washington is seeking a Test Engineer for Energy Storage Systems to lead testing programs from cell characterization to full integrated ESS on flight prototype platforms.

You will develop test methods, set up battery laboratories, implement LabVIEW and Python data tools, and work with program management, design, and integration teams to deliver reliable battery systems for electric aviation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Materials Science, or related). Master’s preferred.
• 5+ years of hands-on battery testing experience including cell characterization and system validation.
• Experience with battery cyclers (Maccor, Arbin, NEWARE) and potentiostat systems (BioLogic).
• High‑voltage DC systems proficiency with HVDC sources and related equipment.

Responsibilities

• Commission and operate battery laboratories and high‑power electrical test systems for development testing and verification.
• Execute tests across cells, modules, and complete ESS on test rigs and aircraft platforms.
• Develop test methods and instrumentation for ESS testing and maintain data acquisition systems.
• Define test strategies with cross-functional teams and plan resources to deliver requirements.
• Develop data processing tools using LabVIEW, Python, and MATLAB for measurement and analysis.
• Create and maintain test documentation within the quality framework.
• Support ESS integration into flying test platforms and participate in flight tests.

About the Role: Join magniX as an Test Engineer, Energey Storage Systems and play a pivotal role in advancing electric aviation through cutting‑edge lithium‑ion battery technology. As a member of the magniX test team, you’ll lead testing programs for Energy Storage Systems, from individual cell characterization to full‑scale integrated battery systems, supporting the development of next‑generation electric aircraft propulsion.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Commission and operate battery laboratories and high‑power electrical test systems for development testing, design verification, and failure mode analysis
• Execute test programs spanning individual cells, battery modules, and complete integrated systems on test rigs and aircraft platforms
• Develop test methods and instrumentation for battery cell and Energy Storage System (ESS) testing, including designing, installing, and maintaining the data acquisition systems
• Define test strategies and requirements with the program management, simulation, design, and integration teams, and plan the test resources needed to deliver them
• Develop data processing tools using LabVIEW, HBM Perception, and/or Python for measurement, control, and analysis
• Create and maintain test documentation including test instructions, plans, reports, and datasets within our quality management framework
• Support ESS integration into flying test platforms and participate in flight test operations
• Provide on‑site technical support at customer locations and work occasional rotating shifts as program needs require
• Support other magniX test programs beyond ESS as part of the test team

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Materials Science, or related discipline). Master’s is preferred.
• 5+ years of hands‑on battery testing experience, including cell characterization, module testing, and system‑level validation, or equivalent specialization through graduate education. Lithium‑ion experience is strongly desired.
• Experience with battery cyclers (Maccor, Arbin, NEWARE or similar) and potentiostat systems (BioLogic or similar)
• High‑voltage DC systems proficiency with experience in HVDC sources and supporting electrical equipment

Preferred Qualifications:

• Electrochemical characterization expertise including dQ/dV analysis and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS)
• Battery safety, abuse testing, and failure mode analysis experience, such as UN38.3 compliance tests and DO-311A safety tests
• FAA certification experience with aircraft systems and components
• Advanced LabVIEW proficiency with additional skills in MATLAB and Python highly valued
• Hands‑on technical skills including workshop tools, soldering, and general fabrication
