Job summary

Dana Incorporated is seeking an engineer to develop and execute validation plans for mechatronic systems and components in a collaborative laboratory setting.

You will design, build, and maintain test fixtures and automated equipment, and perform comprehensive testing across functional, performance, durability, and environmental domains. The role requires close interaction with Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, Software, Quality, and Engineering teams to ensure robust validation coverage.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline as listed.
• Minimum 3+ years in product testing, validation, or lab environments.
• Experience testing electromechanical systems and automated equipment.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with good organization.
• Proficient with Microsoft Excel and other Office tools.
• Valid driver's license and ability to lift up to 35 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute validation plans for mechatronic systems and components.

• Define test methods and acceptance criteria per product requirements.
• Conduct functional, performance, durability, and environmental tests.
• Support root cause analysis and failure investigations.
• Analyze test data and report conclusions and recommendations.
• Collaborate with Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, Software, Quality, and Engineering teams.
• Review requirements to ensure testability and validation coverage.
• Provide input during design reviews and risk assessments.
• Support prototype, pilot, and production validation activities.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, processes, and safety standards.
• Ensure testing aligns with standards, customer requirements, and procedures.
• Contribute to DFMEA, PFMEA, DVP&R and quality documentation.

Job Duties And Responsibilities

Test Development & Execution

• Develop and execute validation and verification test plans for mechatronic systems and components.
• Design, build, and maintain test fixtures, test stands, and automated test equipment.
• Define test methodologies, procedures, and acceptance criteria based on product requirements and industry standards.
• Conduct functional, performance, durability, environmental, and reliability testing.
• Support root cause investigations and failure analysis activities.

Data Analysis & Reporting

• Analyze test data, develop technical conclusions, and communicate results through reports and presentations.

Product Development Support

• Collaborate with Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, Software, Quality, and Engineering teams.
• Review product requirements and specifications to ensure testability and validation coverage.
• Provide technical input during design reviews and risk assessments.
• Support prototype, pilot, and production validation activities.

Laboratory Operations

• Maintain laboratory equipment, processes, and safety standards while supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Compliance & Quality

• Ensure testing activities comply with applicable industry standards, customer requirements, and company procedures.
• Support DFMEA, PFMEA, Design Verification Plans (DVP&R), and quality documentation.
• Participate in corrective and preventive action activities.

Education And Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
• 3+ years of experience in product testing, validation, or engineering laboratory environments.
• Experience testing electromechanical systems, sensors, actuators, motors, or automated equipment.
• Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
• Experience with data acquisition systems and test instrumentation.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Self-motivated team player with excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds repetitively and stand for approximately 50% of the workday.
