Job Overview

The Automated Test Engineer is responsible for the development, execution, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of product validation testing and test infrastructure. This role serves as the technical lead for test data acquisition systems, controls, instrumentation, electrical troubleshooting, sound testing, performance testing, and test cell capability development. The position works closely with Product Engineering, Operations, Quality, Manufacturing, and Customer Support to ensure accurate product validation and rapid resolution of product and test-related issues.

Responsibilities

• Develop, coordinate, and execute validation testing for vacuum pumps, compressors, packaged systems, and related rotating equipment.
• Identify, diagnose, and resolve product or test-system issues discovered during validation to support successful product qualification and release.
• Serve as the technical owner of motors, VFDs, DC drives, PLCs, controls, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems while ensuring accurate, reliable, and repeatable testing.
• Maintain and improve LabVIEW applications, National Instruments hardware, instrumentation systems, and test infrastructure while supporting future automation and test cell capability development.
• Analyze test data and performance trends and partner with Product Engineering to validate designs, evaluate performance, and support continuous product improvement initiatives.
• Create and improve test procedures, validation methods, calibration plans, and standard work instructions to enhance testing efficiency, repeatability, and product quality.
• Generate engineering development reports, nonconformance reports, engineering change requests, product performance reports, and other technical documentation.
• Communicate test setups, methods, results, conclusions, and recommendations to engineering, operations, customers, leadership teams, and third-party inspectors.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Three or more years of experience in test engineering, controls engineering, instrumentation, validation engineering, or a related role within a manufacturing environment.
• Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible to obtain and maintain required government security clearances.

Core Competencies

• Comfortable working with motor starters, VFDs, DC drives, controls, and instrumentation systems.
• Experience developing and troubleshooting LabVIEW applications used for automated testing, data acquisition, or control systems.
• Understanding of industrial manufacturing, assembly, and testing practices involving pumps, compressors, or other rotating equipment.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and technical communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple technical priorities and work effectively with limited supervision.
• Understanding of electrical noise, grounding, and signal integrity principles.
• Ability to analyze large data sets, identify trends, and convert results into actionable conclusions.
• Ability to communicate technical information effectively to engineers, operations personnel, customers, and leadership.
• Demonstrates ownership, accountability, and the ability to drive issues to closure while prioritizing work based on business impact.

Preferences

• Electrical Engineering background preferred.
• Experience troubleshooting VFDs, SCR drives, power electronics, or industrial motor control systems.
• Experience with National Instruments (NI) data acquisition hardware and software.
• Experience performing acoustic or vibration analysis.
• Experience with vacuum pumps, compressors, liquid ring equipment, or other rotating fluid machinery.
• Experience applying mechanical equipment to customer operating conditions, performance requirements, or industrial process applications.

Travel & Work Arrangements

This position is based at the Ingersoll Rand facility in Bentleyville, Pennsylvania. Travel requirements are expected to be minimal.
