Hilltop Ski Area in Anchorage, AK, is seeking a Terrain Park Lead to support the Terrain Park Supervisor in daily operations, safety, maintenance, and development of the terrain park. You will supervise terrain park staff, maintain park features, monitor safety, and ensure guests have a positive experience.

You will lead during shifts in the supervisor's absence, assist with feature installation, layout planning, and collaborate with grooming and mountain operations.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • One year of terrain park, ski area, snow sports, or related operational experience.
  • Intermediate to advanced skiing or snowboarding ability.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily inspections of terrain park features, rails, jumps, signage, and fencing.
  • Monitor park conditions and recommend maintenance or repairs as needed.
  • Assist in feature shaping, snow management, repair, and general park upkeep.
  • Ensure safety signage is visible, accurate, and properly maintained.
  • Identify and report hazards and unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Promote responsible terrain park use and educate guests on park safety and etiquette.
  • Assist with accident and incident documentation as required.
  • Assist the Terrain Park Supervisor with daily crew management and task assignments.
  • Provide leadership and direction to Terrain Park Crew members.
  • Help train new employees on safety procedures, maintenance practices, and operational standards.
  • Monitor employee performance and provide coaching and feedback.
  • Serve as acting supervisor during designated shifts or in the absence of the Terrain Park Supervisor.
  • Support a positive, productive, and team-oriented work environment.
  • Assist with terrain park layout, feature placement, and seasonal build plans.
  • Collaborate with grooming and mountain operations teams to maintain park quality.
  • Participate in feature installation, relocation, and removal.

  • Answer questions regarding terrain park operations and feature status.

  • Assist with maintaining terrain park equipment, tools, fencing, and signage.
  • Conduct routine equipment inspections and report maintenance needs.
  • Ensure tools and materials are stored safely and properly.
  • Help coordinate resources to maintain optimal park conditions.
  • Assist with terrain park events, competitions, demonstrations, and promotional activities.
  • Contribute photos, videos, and updates for social media and marketing initiatives.
  • Work with staff and vendors to support successful event execution.
  • Help promote participation in Hilltop terrain park programs and events.
  • Maintain records of inspections, maintenance activities, and repairs.
  • Assist with incident reporting and safety documentation.
  • Document employee training activities as assigned.

Position Summary

The Terrain Park Lead supports the Terrain Park Supervisor in the daily operation, maintenance, safety, and development of the terrain park at Hilltop Ski Area. This position assists with supervising terrain park staff, maintaining park features, monitoring safety conditions, and ensuring guests have a positive and enjoyable experience. The Terrain Park Lead serves as the acting supervisor in the absence of the Terrain Park Supervisor and helps foster a culture of safety, teamwork, and excellent guest service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

Park Maintenance and Safety
  • Assist with daily inspections of terrain park features, rails, jumps, signage, and fencing.
  • Monitor park conditions and recommend maintenance or repairs as needed.
  • Assist in feature shaping, snow management, repair, and general park upkeep.
  • Ensure safety signage is visible, accurate, and properly maintained.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • One year of terrain park, ski area, snow sports, or related operational experience.
  • Intermediate to advanced skiing or snowboarding ability.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow established safety procedures and operational policies.
  • Flexibility in schedule to support night builds/events.
  • Ability to safely operate a snowmachine/snowmobile.
  • Intermediate level understanding of terrain park design and feature maintenance.
  • Basic understanding of safe operation of tools (saws, grinders, torches, drills, etc.).
  • Ability to supervise and motivate others.
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Excellent stamina is required. The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, humidity, and exposure to snow/ice.
