Job summary

A national terminaling and transportation company is seeking a Terminal Operator in Paducah, Kentucky. The ideal candidate will ensure the safe operation of terminal equipment, conduct maintenance, and perform inspections. This position requires a high school diploma and a TWIC. Candidates should have excellent customer service skills and be capable of working under varying environmental conditions. Job description

Terminal Operator – TransMontaigne Partners LLC

Position Summary

Reporting to the Terminal Manager, the Terminal Operator safely operates all terminal equipment in connection with the receiving, storing, transferring, and loading of liquid bulk products via trucks, pipeline, rail cars, water vessels, or tanks. The operator tests products, documents results, maintains terminal equipment, prepares terminal reports, and performs general maintenance and upkeep of the facility. This is a safety‑sensitive position.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure the safe operation of terminal equipment and maintain awareness of personal and co‑worker safety.
  • Perform gauging of storage tanks, temperature readouts, and obtain product samples.
  • Complete daily, monthly, quarterly, semi‑annual, and annual maintenance and compliance inspections and maintain required logs.
  • Input daily meter readings and calculate product inventories into appropriate systems.
  • Report any terminal equipment failures and ensure safety devices and systems function properly.
  • Conduct daily walk‑around inspections to identify potential risks and maintain good housekeeping standards.
  • Perform preventive and routine maintenance on pumps, valves, meters, compressors, motors, tanks, pipes, terminal building, and other equipment.
  • Calibrate and adjust all additive injection systems as required.
  • Basic testing of oils (viscosity, API, flash) when necessary.
  • Complete additive reconciliation documentation monthly and maintain Product Quality Log.
  • Issue work permits to contractors and enforce lockout‑tagout, confined space entry, and gas tech monitoring requirements.
  • Ensure contractors, customers, and vendors follow company policies when accessing the terminal.
  • Communicate product outages and equipment downtime to appropriate individuals.
  • Participate in emergency situations as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Strong team player with the ability to work independently.
  • General knowledge of steam boilers, hot oil heaters, loading racks, product blenders, and automation systems.
  • Basic computer and Microsoft Office experience; experience with Toptech or similar terminal automation software is preferred.
  • Ability to perform required mathematical calculations with or without a calculator.
  • Ability to work outside for long periods of time in any weather condition.
  • Ability to work overtime as necessary.
  • Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Industry experience preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license (terminal specific).
  • Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) required.
Physical Requirements
  • Normal physical mobility, heavy lifting up to 90 lbs, climbing heights, and working with hand tools.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move across large areas and uneven terrain.
  • Regular dexterity of hands and coordination.
  • Normal endurance, concentration, and decision making under pressure.
  • Maintenance requires climbing onto, under, and on top of all terminal equipment in awkward positions.
Working Environment
  • Outdoor weather conditions, temperature extremes, cramped spaces, loud noises, chemicals, fumes, dust, heights, and work safety hazards.
  • High, precarious places and moving mechanical parts, hand tools, and power tools.
