Job summary

Energy Transfer in Cleveland, OH is seeking a Terminal Operator to operate terminal equipment for receiving, storing, transferring, and loading refined petroleum products in a reliable, compliant manner.

Under supervision, you will gauge tanks, record meter readings, manage inventories, and perform safety inspections while coordinating with operations and emergency response teams to maintain safe, efficient terminal performance.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with peers and management.
  • Self-starter with minimal supervision.
  • Willing to reside within 45 miles of reporting location.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Able to operate basic testing equipment and use hand tools.
  • Strong math skills for inventory calculations.

Responsibilities

  • Gauge storage tanks and record daily meter readings.
  • Provide top-tier service to commercial/operations teams.
  • Input inventories and meter readings into systems.
  • Perform daily/monthly product inventory reconciliations.
  • Carry out routine maintenance and safety inspections.
  • Load petroleum products onto trucks and receive from pipelines.
  • Travel to facilities to support terminals as needed.
  • Take product samples and perform QC tests.
  • Issue work permits and enforce safety procedures.
  • Coordinate emergency response with supervision.
  • Report outages and downtime promptly.

Summary

Under general supervision of Terminal Supervisor, the Terminal Operator is responsible for operating all Terminal equipment in connection with receiving, storing, transferring, and loading of refined petroleum productsin a reliable and efficient manner while in compliance with the Partnership’s procedures and regulatory requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The essential job duties for this position are listed below:

  • Gauge storage tanks and take meter readings for all products on a daily basis
  • Provide top-tier customer service to commercial and operations customer representatives
  • Calculate and input all product inventories and meter readings into appropriate systems
  • Perform daily and monthly reconciliation of product inventories and thru-puts
  • Perform facility maintenance on office building, assets, vegetation, as needed
  • Perform the safe loading of petroleum products onto trucks and receive products from pipelines
  • Travel to various refined products and crude facilities with little notice to effectively assist terminals across the organization
  • Take product samples as required and perform/log required Quality control tests
  • Perform and log all scheduled maintenance and compliance inspections
  • Ensure that all terminal equipment is functioning properly and report failures to supervisor
  • Perform daily walk around inspections to identify potential risks and ensure good housekeeping standards are maintained
  • Issue work permits to contractors performing work at the Terminal. This includes ensuring that pre-job safety meetings, lockout - tag-out, confined space entry, and gas tech monitoring requirements are met for all work performed at the Terminal
  • Correcting or stopping all unsafe acts or conditions not in accordance with Company Policies and Procedures by any party entering the facility
  • Remain knowledgeable of, and prepared to enact and coordinate the Emergency Response activities until relieved by supervisor or management personnel
  • Communicate product outages and equipment downtime to supervisor, customers, and other impacted parties in a prompt fashion
Required Skills
Required Education
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Effectively communicate with peers and management of various levels
  • Self-starter able work with little or no supervision
  • Carry a pager or cell phone allowing for shift hold over or shift reassignment, as well as call out at all hours
  • Able to use basic hand tools and operate basic product testing equipment
  • Proficient in mathematics and able to perform all required calculations
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and written
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license for state of residence
  • Able to notice subtle Color differences in product samples
  • Must be willing and able to work as a part of team, take direction from supervisor(s), prioritize work schedules, focus attention to details, and follow work rules
  • Must reside within 45 miles of reporting location. The described job duties are a framework in which work will be assigned. This description is not inclusive of all responsibilities or job assignments. This position will require extended off-hour duties at times.
Required experience is commensurate with the selected job level
  • Level C requires a minimum of 0 - 2 years of relevant experience in a midstream operations role or equivalent work experience
  • Level B requires a minimum of 2 – 4 years of relevant experience in a midstream operations role or equivalent work experience
  • Level A requires a minimum of 4+ years of relevant experience in a midstream operations role or equivalent work experience
Working Conditions and Requirements
  • Frequent exposure to heat, cold, and other adverse weather conditions
  • Work in and around industrial and construction settings, which may include hazardous products, processes, materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and require appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Frequent heavy lifting with and without assistance
  • Work on and around equipment and facilities that require knowledge of and adherence to safe work procedures and practices
  • Subject to call-outs to respond to operational issues and emergencies after working hours, at night, and on weekends and holidays
  • Reliable attendance at work
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required
