Job summary

MIT Department of Chemistry and the MIT Schwarzman College of Computing in Cambridge, MA invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position bridging chemistry and computational, machine-learning, or generative AI approaches, starting July 1, 2027 or as soon thereafter as possible. The successful candidate will develop independent research, teach in Chemistry and SCC programs, supervise graduate and undergraduate research, and mentor trainees.

A Ph.D.

Qualifications

• PhD in chemistry, computational chemistry, biochemistry, computer science, or a related discipline.
• Candidates should develop and apply frontier computational approaches, including machine learning and generative methods, to address problems across chemistry.
• Shared appointment in Chemistry and SCC with EECS or IDSS depending on fit.
• Duties include teaching two subjects per year, supervising research, and mentoring trainees.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Chemistry and SCC, including computational and ML approaches.
• Supervise graduate and undergraduate research and mentor trainees.
• Develop and lead an independent, vibrant research program with collaborations across departments.
