The University of Tennessee-Chattanooga invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Plant Ecology beginning August 1, 2027. We seek candidates with research and teaching focused in any area of plant ecology.

The successful candidate will establish an independent undergraduate/graduate research program, teach courses from freshman level through Master’s level in ecology and related fields, and contribute to UTC’s biology, geology, and environmental science programs.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. focused in plant ecology, botany, plant conservation, or related field.
  • Ability to teach from freshman undergrad through Master’s level in ecology, plant ecology, plant conservation, and general botany; also intro biology/environmental science.
  • Ability to establish an independent research program involving undergrad and graduate students.
  • Ability to work collegially with students, faculty, staff, and community partners.
  • Ability to use high-impact teaching and student-engagement practices from undergrad to graduate levels.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and lead an independent research program in plant ecology or plant conservation.
  • Teach a broad range of ecology courses from introductory to graduate level.
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research activities.
  • Service and collaboration with university, community partners, and professional communities.
